| Member | Sticking to the literature
It is of concern that every step in this forum starts with a reading or meditation from a non AA source. I have not read much of Muriel Zink so I do not have much experience with her literature. What I have read, I can't reconcile with my big book. What troubles me tremendously is the movement to go away from our basic text within AA. I have no problem with people in the SR community using whatever method they want. I simply ask that in an AA specific forum, we actually use AA material. One of the biggest secrets in AA, is the Big Book.

This is simply an breakdown or "Study" of the steps. One can quote the steps from the Big Book but unless one works on actually trying to understand the steps and how they apply to everyday life then is one truly studying the steps? No where in the definition of the word study does it say that the information regarding the subject has to only be taken from the original text. To fully understand and accept things many times one has to view it from other perspectives and be open to new ideas. Please see below for the definition of study. Definition of Study: From http://encarta.msn.com/dictionary_1861716299/study.html Definition: 1. transitive and intransitive verb learn about something: to learn about a subject by reading and researching 2. transitive and intransitive verb take educational course: to take a course at a college or university 3. transitive verb investigate something: to discover facts about something by doing research or experimentsa team of researchers studying the effects of sleep deprivation 4. transitive verb look at and consider something: to look at or read something and think about it carefullyHe studied the map, frowning. 5. transitive verb theater learn lines: to learn the lines spoken by a character in a play

I would welcome someone starting their own thread on each step based purely on the Big Book text.
