Exclamation Discussion and Sharing Welcomed!

Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

I noticed that the further into the steps, the fewer the replies. I guess that's understandable. They're in order for a reason, and many here seek support in the early stages of sobriety, then what? Find their plates filling with life and meaning, responsibility and committments?

Part of coming here is twelfth step work for me. A large part, really. I know that things have changed since the old days, and there are seldom drunk wards to be found in hospitals where we can make a 12 step call on a brother or sister. So, where does one find folks to carry the message? It's convenient if they walk into a meeting, but there's so much misinformation, so much fear that very often, walking through those doors is already the miracle in action. Here, we can carry the message to those seeking the miracle.

Oh, I have plenty of 12 step work off the boards. I do CPC/PI work, take meetings to the local jail, sponsor women, participate in my homegroup -- once, I was even allowed to make coffee!

But the most important 12 step work I think I can ever do is to get out of myself and greet the newcomer in the parking lot. Give out my phone number. Share how it works.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

These posts are very encouraging to read. I used to do alot of service work but have been away from AA meetings for a while and have not done any. It's so easy to get into self and that is not a pleasant place to live, I've spent the last few years there. I don't know what CPC/PI work is, I'm curious about that.

I know that my way does not work and that I need to live with some kind of 12 step oriented spiritual program. I can't handle my problems alone and "that feeling of uselessness and self-pity" can come back at any time, I've found; it's not a pleasant place to be.

I just realized, my last post was on the 11th step back in February.

Anyway, I am carrying the message, and practicing these principles in all my affairs. Or, at least, trying to.

Today, I have sponsees, and chair a meeting. I stick my hand out routinely to newcomers.

Having had a spiritual awakening as =THE= result, not a result.

Every other approach had already failed.!
My shrink did nothing more than observe my progress and reduce my meds, psychiatry had already proven ineffective, thats why he told me to try AA.

I try to do 12 step work by participating in my daily meetings. I have a commitment chairing every Tuesday, and I honor that. I try to make phone calls, let people new to this know that help is out there, that people care. I try to take care of myself so that I can show by example the power of this program.
