Working step one alone?

Anyone have tips for doing this? Im just getting sober and wont be able to go to many meetings but I am gonna start looking for a sponsor right away. Id just like to begin some stepwork while I am searching.

Do you have a big book?

Maybe a male member here would agree to be an online temp sponsor?

Hello again. I was just thinking of an online open talk, or big book/step workshop to help as well. Hold on and I will be rounding up some links.

Glad you have the book.

Have you ever read any portion of it?

Scroll down to Workshop 1, 2, 3, with Mickey Bush, in two parts

Joe and Charlie also have a Big Book Study on this page.

Fallow, ask at your AA meetings if someone could come and get you to get a ride to the meetings. It will likely amaze you how many rides you can get. When you get back on your feet, you can return the favor.
If you have read the Big Book over the years, you likely have a good idea today what went wrong in your recovery. Meetings and a sponsor are so important.

Best of luck to you.

Im doing quite well thanks. Listened to many xa lights on big book study mp3's last night and this morning. A wave of different emotions has been poured over me. I know without reservations finally that I am a hopeless alcoholic. Which is strange because I dont feel bad about it only ready to ask for and accept help finally. Its been a long road. Im still scared because I know much work is to come. Looking forward to going to meetings tomorrow. Thanks for the links. I will be back tonight after work.

Welcome!

It gets easier.

Are you utilizing the AA program?

I heard someone mention the other day...that we all have the same amount of time...

24 hours a day.

I had to make time to practice prayer and meditation as outlined in the book Alcoholics Anonymous as well as working the 12 steps.

Even if you can only start at home, with your book, it's a start.

I listen to AA speakers that have recorded talks, and I can listen while I cook and clean!

I don't know your challenges, so I would just like to encourage you at this point.

Tell us how we can help!

Thanks. I'm using this site as my AA . MY husband knows I was drinking every night but he has no idea how bad it got. He works out of town most of the time so I really can't access AA. I went to the Dr last month and was going to ask for help but chickened out. Ended up leaving with a prescription for wellbutrine because she thought I was depressed. What book are you referring to

The book is Alcoholics Anonymous. The AA program has a book that you can read. You can buy it or read it online.

Here is a link if you would like to begin reading it.

Here's the 12 steps and 12 Traditions. Will explain the steps in more detail. Different from link posted above.

Step one worksheets, however I was told by my sponsor only a fool sponsors themself. Not calling you a fool. That is what I was told.

Seeing as this disease centers in our mind, we need someone who has worked the steps and has time and quality sobriety to kind of be a sounding board as we can rationalize anything in our minds. Don't suppose it can hurt to keep busy with 1st step questions and literature, but once you get a sponsor you will want to work the step 1 all over with her as you will benefit from her experience.

I'm having fun with a list of questions about each step that I found on-line.

The Big Book works great for many, while others don't relate so well. I've done better with more current books that look at alcoholism beyond the DT's and black-out phase.

The questionaire has helped me take a fresh look at some of my crazy behavior and how that relates to alcohol.
