| So caught up?
I seem to get so caught up in the fray of thought and events coming up and saying to myself "Oh, I'm not going to be able to drink that night" That I lose the basic premace that I can't drink anynight, period. It doesn't matter who I'm with or where I'm at. That's my bottom line. I really struggle with that and I also struggle with the fact that let's say tonight I have a few drinks, get a nice buzz and everthing is fine. The next night it's blackout drunk time and for no reason. That's what tells me 'I am powerless"! |

Pretty good summation about the physical powerlessnes. Do you think you could just decide to never drink again? That's one way you won't have to worry about blacking out..... If you aren't sure about being able to quit ~ this is the right place.

I was powerless because once I picked up that first drink, I couldn't predict with any accuracy what might happen next. Even though I was a binge drinker and not a daily one, the periods in between drunks were miserable. I was restless, irritable, and discontented. Alcohol took that away for me. When I first got sober, I thought an alcoholic was a skid-row bum drinking cheap wine out of a paper bag. As time went on, I learned to listen for the similarities at meetings, not the differences. A written first step really opened up my eyes to just how powerless I was, and just how unmanageable my life was.
