| Who is Responsible?
Who Is Responsible? Your happiness, who is responsible for it? Is it other people (even God) doing the things you want and like? Unhappiness is dissatisfaction with our life. If we can make the claim that our happiness is according to the people/things around us, then our unhappiness must be equally linked to those things. In the case above, we must somehow get people/God to do the things that we want and like in order to regain our happiness. That just isnât going to happen. God rarely, if ever, does the things that we want, and people just arenât any better. Our unhappiness is tied more to the self of the person than it is to anything around us. I can be happy with me or I can be unhappy with me. If I am happy with myself, I am more likely to be happy with those around me, and if I am unhappy with myself, I find that I will find reasons to not be happy with the people around me. You know, we imagined that God was unhappy with us, and since he was unhappy with us, we became unhappy with ourselves. We even made doctrines about it, called âOriginal Sinâ and âthe Fall of Manâ. We told ourselves that if we would just do the things that God likes, he would be happy with us and do the things we wanted so then we could be happy with ourselves. The thing was, God was never unhappy with us. In the world, it is just like that. We feel that someone has become unhappy with us and we become unhappy with ourselves. We tell ourselves if we just do those things the person wants from us, then they will be happy with us and do the things we want so we can be happy. Only, it never works out that way. It isnât based on what we do right or wrong, it is based in this undefineable desire to be with us, called love, one that doesnât spring from, âI like what you do for me.â but comes from a much deeper attachment that says, âI canât help but want to be with you!â From: Walking the Dogma
