Yo, or else I may be napping cross legged. Actually Dharma practice is a big part of my program. So I'll keep practicing till I get it right. :-) My parents tried to raise me Christian but I was a very trying child. Good to meet you. By the way, I've been a Dharma follower for many years, sober not so much so now is a much truer experience. Good to meet you. Namaste

if you are "trying" to be a bhuddist, then aren't you following the teachings of Christ?

I went to an introduction to meditation meeting last night for an eight week course to start in two weeks. I have really been working on that portion on my own, but am excited to see after some guidance.

Pats11,
I am among the meditators!
Have you started meditating yet, or are you learning about it?

Larrylive,
You might be interested in reading more about Buddhism. I love the Berzin Archives. Granted the focus is mainly on Tibetan Buddhism, but has some overall info too.
The Berzin Archives – The Buddhist Archives of Dr. Alexander Berzin – Home Page
There is an especially good transcript entitled "Establishing Harmony within Religious Diversity" (the Dalai Lama). You might find it interesting reading, or you might not. I find it helps me to have a little understanding of a concept if I want to have a discussion/debate about it.

I was raised into a combination of Shintoism and Buddhism. They are not religions. Simply put, more like philosophical. Being Japanese I chose the route to Christianity now.

I meditate and have been using Buddhist teachings for a couple of years. I don't call myself a buddhist, but only because I don't like labels of any sort. Except for stopping drinking, the buddhist way has been the single most vital thing in helping me find serenity. I mean I don't wear a hair shirt or anything LOL, I just try to apply the basic principles in my very western life

I don't "try" following the Buddhist path, I keep getting thrown onto that path whether I want it or not.

As far as meditation goes, I use Zen ZaZen. If you want to try Zen also, don't even think about it... LOL!

I don't try to "stir up trouble", it exist on it's own. I was merely suggesting the path of inclusion rather than exclusion.

Or as once noted, "All paths lead to the summit" I think that was a Hindu qoute.
Not to mention I believe Jesus is recognized as a bhudda, just as moslems recognize him as a prophet.

Never stir, fold

I too was raised Christian. Now I choose a different path. One of my liking.

I like some aspects of Buddhism and Zen Buddhism. I practice clear mind meditation a few minuets throughout the day. It helps me get grounded when I notice my mind 'chattering'.

There is a very good book by Jack Kornfield called "Budda's Little Instruction Book".

It has many Buddist sayings for daily reading and also many Buddist Meditations in the back.

It can be bought on Amazon.com used. Very good reading. I did not mean I was "trying" to be Buddist" I am studying Buddism.

Blessings,
Kahlia

For me I just call it Dharma Practice or following the Dharma but usually don't call it anything unless I'm on SR. I try to be mindful but yesterday I tripped over my meditation cushion, not good but I was sober.

Last year, I decided that I wanted to take a spiritual journey. This year I looked behind me at where I had been and decided begin meditation.
When I was 19 a buddy handed me a book titled "An Introduction to Zen Buddhism." After 34 years of reading about Zen, I'm finally starting to do the work. Baby steps.
Instead of trying to do it on my own (which is how I tried to do everything before I found my program), I've been sitting with a group. I think it helps.
