The Creator & me

Quote:
The graceful bird of the skies, the Eagle, is the prayer carrier and messenger of the Anishinabe people. As the Eagle soars across the skies, one knows he is carrying the prayers to the Creator.
Ojibway (Native Canadian) beliefs are a big part of my spirituality. My mother is Ojibway.

I have been really struggling the past few months. Life has been so hard. These past few days have been okay though.

I took the day off work today for no other reason than I need a break, solitude. I went out on the lake this morning. I jokingly told my sister that I was not coming back until I found serenity.

As I was thinking of heading home, an Eagle visited me. He sat in a tree directly in front of me for about 10 minutes and then left.

Then this afternoon, I was sitting on the deck alone, listening to music & reading. Several Eagles (five I think) started soaring in front of my home, playing or possibly hunting, I’m not sure. It was just incredible.

I made my tobacco offering.

Some words came to me & I wrote them down:

Be a loving & responsible father & husband. Risk my heart being broken.

Do my best at my job. Be compassionate & kind.

Be a good friend. Help & ask for help.

Take care of myself & grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. There will be pain & suffering as I strive to be the best I can.

This is all I know how to do. This is all I can do.

I don’t feel great but I do feel a deeper peace, more acceptance. I have to do my best, take risks, & embrace life, even the suffering. The alternative is to sit alone and let life pass by.

Yeah. This is all I can do.

Miigwetch (Thank you).
