I was born and bred Jewish. Pre-K through 8th grade was spent in a Jewish day school. I'm in 10th grade now and am a recovering alcoholic. I didn't drink because of God...or becuase religion has been shoved in my face all my life. But I'm pissed. I've been through alot of sh!t. I have Crohn's--an auto immune disease. I'm in for life. I take 13 pills in the morning. fair for a 16 years old?? I think not. I also am pressured by my parents to get perfect grades--tp BE perfect. Then, love. Don't even get me started on that one. AA is based on finding God. Finding a higher being, power, whatever you want to call it. But honestly, If there is a God, I'm too pissed at him to even consider...anything. |

You seem very young to be an "alcoholic". 'Higher power' doesn't necessarily mean 'god' or traditional definitions that you were probably exposed to in school. Its simply the realization that there is a power greater than yourself in the universe, and that we are all part of a greater whole.

My age doesn't mean anything. 16 or 60. you dont believe I'm an alcoholic?? talk to my friends who I call drunk at 3 in the morning....OFTEN. If we are all part of a whole, then why are some people happy, while I'm here suffering? If we are one entity, does that mean that it's me who's dealing with his screw ups? In that case, why doesn't she face MY screw ups? If we are a whole....why am I left out? |

I have a spirituality without God/Gods/Goddesses...and the like. I'm a non-theist Buddhist...no worship or faith or belief is necessary to find a higher power within my spiritual practice. My practice of Zen Buddhism is my higher power and I use that practice as a base source in order to work the 12 step program of AA. "If there is a will there is a way". I find this very true in my life within the program of AA. The beauty of it all is it work's effortlessly. May you find your path...blessed be on your journey.

I was pissed at God too. In fact I told my sponsor that. He laughed and said "At least you believe. It is a place to start." Your own conception is a good enough place to start. Remain open-minded and it will grow. Jim | |

My youngest son was born with all kinds of ailments and allergies. He was sick so often and at the doctors so much when he was young. It was very scary and very stressful. One day, I was looking at some info about and photos of my father's family history. His father was one of 11 children; only 6 of whom lived to age 5. His mother was one of 16 children; only 11 of whom lived to age 5 -- and 2 more of whom were killed in "the Great War" while in their teens. Of course, I had known all of this for a long time, but on that particular day, I suddenly realized how truly blessed we were that my son had been born when he was -- when there was so much more knowledge and so many more options and so many ways for him to get help. If he had been born 100 years earlier, he would not have lived even one year. Blessings and curses -- sometimes it all depends on how you look at it. freya

Hi pearlwolf I have got sick while traveling in other countries and its been difficult to get better, that is why now when I get sick I feel bad for myself, but thankful I live in a country where I can access health services anytime and have enough $ to pay for any treatment.. even if its daily... If you are reading this, you got a new day of life. For thousands that did not make it to today, YOU are the lucky one. It all depends on how you want to see it, if you want to be angry, there are plenty of reasons to be angry, if you want to be thankful, there are a million reasons to be thankful... its YOUR choice. A human talking about God is like an ant talking about the Milky Way. I can imagine an ant in the Amazon forest saying "hey, our community of ants is all that is there" You will believe or say what suits you best, regardless of this... I hope gratitude fills your heart one day... and you feel peace.

It's like when I pray, I can pray and talk to God many times a day about anything I want. God will sort out the junk. It sounds like you're a little less mad than you were when you started, yes? It feels a lot better to be not mad, and helps us enjoy our day. Enjoy yours, okay? Hugs

@ pearl I you choose to label yourself 'alcoholic', then don't let me stop you. I'm glad you are here for help and support. Alcoholism is typically a significant change in brain chemistry as a result of years of heavy, consistent drinking. Teenagers may have a problem with alcohol, but they are rarely 'alcoholic' in terms of the physiology. As far as being a part of a 'greater whole', you already are. It just takes time to realize it. It took me almost fifteen years to figure it out. By just being here (SR), you have advantages that most of us didn't.

The man who believes God exists and the man who is certain God does not exist, are both right. In the spiritual realm both true and false can exist at the same time. That is because what is right or wrong is simply because belief makes it so. Even though God is omnipotent he is so humble that he will not go where he is not invited. Meister Eckhart said “The Eye with which I see God is the same Eye with which God sees me” Each individual determines the nature of his own universe by choosing the foundation principles by which both his attitude and his perception will be uniquely experienced. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

No God, No Self, No Worry. It ultimately there is no intrinsic perminant self, who was it who was doing my drinking? There was a young man who said, “Though It seems that I know that I know, What I would like to see Is the ‘I’ that knows ‘me’ When I know that I know that I know.—Allan Watts (died of Alcoholism In any case, God no God, Self, no Self, Fair, no Fair, it doesn't really matter. Once I was an active alcoholic, homicidal, suicidal mask of a manboy. Then I just got tired and I just put it down. I could no longer wrestle myself. “Suddenly, no, at last, long last, I couldn’t anymore, I couldn’t go on. Someone said, You can’t stay here. I couldn’t stay there and I couldn’t go on.” ---Samuel Beckett Today, in this moment, right now, right here, its all good. Since things neither exist nor don’t exist, Are neither real nor unreal. Are utterly beyond adopting or rejecting— One might as well burst out laughing.—Longchenpa Pearlwolf911, I wish you peace and sobriety or whatever else you are seeking. Namaste (I bow to you) |
