Chopra. Deepak Chopra.

I've begun reading "Recovering from Addiction" by Deepak Chopra.

I have never read anything he's written before. So far it seems interesting...but there's also been a quiz that almost seemed like something out of my friends' issues of Cosmopolitan.

Has anyone here read this book? Or any other book he's written? If so, what were your thoughts?

Thanks!

One of the buddhist priests that was at one of our sheshins was real into him. We listened to a tape. Have alot of respect for him, but didn't really hold my interest. may have been the specific tape though and where i was at at the time. So let me know what you think OK?

Absolutely. I also have "The 7 Principles of Spiritual Success" or whatever it is, though I'm becoming a bit of a cynic-- it seems like you can write a self-help book about ANYTHING, so long as the title begins with either "The Seven _____ to help you _____", or "The Power of ______".

Grateful, can you tell me anything more about Vedanta (I think is the right name), which he keeps aluding to?

umm, lets see, Vedanta is a spiritual tradition within Hinduism . You can find an explanation in the Upanishads. its about self-realization through which you can undestand the ultimate nature of reality.
There really isn't one sole source for Vedantic philosophy..it's based on immutable spiritual laws that are common to religions and spiritual traditions and it refers to a state of self-realization, attainment or cosmic conciousness.
From what i understand , the definition of Vedanta is "end of all knowledge"
cool, eh?...hope this helps..

I like many of the things he writes and enjoyed his book "How To Know God".

I don't have to agree with everything an author writes to find good things that help me in my life.

I've heard him speak and also interviewed one-on-one and find him to be a fascinating man.

I guess because i have read, contemplated, and put into action about many of the theories that Chopra writes about it is not so profound to me as it might be to others.

I tried reading his first book but the writing style could not keep my mind captured so I gave it to someone who wanted it. Now when I read about these types of things it is a college level course continuing ed type of thing.

B's, did go look for the books, put'um in the attic, and have to dig them out...

one of DC's lines...

"I in fact don't believe in the existence of time. That's one thing I have to tell you, and the other is that I don't take myself or what I am doing seriously"

sounds like good ol'e Rule 62 to me!

Deepak is one of my favorite authors.i have gotten to meet him personally several times over the years(starting back in the late 80s)He has been a guest speaker at our church and at Lilydale(a spiritualist town in NY).He radiates such an energy of Peace, both in person and thru his books.I recomend his CD(A GIFT OF LOVE volume 1)in it he puts the words of the sufi poet Rumi to music.Friends played it at their wedding. It is one of my all time favorites....Hippy
