| My Beliefs
I just want to know if anyone feels any similar on the subject of God. I've never really commited to a religion. I have always found it hard to believe in one religion because there are many on this earth and finding one that works for me doesn't mean to me that I have found god, just mans interpretation. God to me has always been something indescribable, unnaccountable, no heaven and hell, no wrath, nothing such as that. Gods ultimate plan, concept or what you would call it, and our thoughts on God himself and what God's plans are are bound by human beings abilities to understand. We can never understand that divine spirit, and i've never beleived in it guiding and caring about us. That doesn't mean to say i have no faith though and am unhappy. I am very happy. I just disagree with trying to organise religion. God i beleive wouldn't want us to worship him every sunday at mass. He doesn't want to waste away the precious time that we have on this earth. I'm sorry if i have offended anybody, there is much that is hard to explain, way too hard to put into words, and stuff i cannot think of at the moment. I hope to hear everyones thoughts. I am very open minded. |

Organized religion scared many of us at an early age. We were all told, we were sinners and made to feel were going to to hell. That today, is not my understanding of a loving God.

I have had many questions about religion myself. I even looked up the origin of it. Was pretty interesting. The thing that was most interesting was people have always believed in some God. Experts were trying to understand why. And said that people has always wondered where we came from. Why is there a sun, moon ect. Just thought you might be interested.

Yeh I heard that. It makes much more sense to pray to the sun than anything else. If there was no christianity we would probably be all sun worshippers. Sun worshippers (pagans) were wiped out in crusades by righteous christians who thought it was an evil religion. This was around the dark ages i think.

Welcome jb I do not adhere to any religion although I was raised a strict Catholic. I take what I need from the Universe and words of wisdom and I am a very spiritual non religeous person.

Hi JbAus, I understand and respect that everyone has different beliefs and thoughts on religion and God. I am a devout Christian and can be outspoken at times. :-) God has brought me through many things and manifests himself in ways that (for me) make it impossible to doubt his existence. I actually came onto the forum today to share an encounter I had with God yesterday, it helped my attitude to do a 180 turn, in a positive direction. Sometimes experience are just too strong to be coincidental. If you get a chance take a look at my testimony post, it's one small example of how I've seen God work in my life. |

Hi Jb I have heard it said organized religion is man's interpretation and thus limits us. Spirituality is all inclusive and gives us the freedom to develop our own personal connection. I have tried many religions but never felt part of.....coming into recovery and working the spiritual principles I have found my path

I think religion and spirituality are very subjective. I had a lot of trouble with the God thing at the beginning. I knew I had to discover a "Higher Power" to make my sobriety work, so committed to making that happen, I had no choice. After lots of reading the Big Book and listening to the Joe and Charlie tapes, I settled on this, so I could do the steps: Something greater than ourselves started this world etc. I refer to this as "Creator" We are born good, no negative emotions and have a "higher power" built in As we grow, experience our world, live....we lose touch with and stop relying on this higher power which was there to guide us from the beginning. We are now so caught up in trying to do everything ourselves, run into trouble and feel that we have nobody to turn to. AA simply tells us to get "back in touch" with our higher power. (which was inside us all along) This is just my humble opinion only, like I said, I just needed "something" that I could wrap my head around to help me. It could change in time as well. Scott |
