What does that mean? I've never heard of it but am curious.

It's supposed to be situated between the eyes just a little higher up and if it is open it means that your spiritual centre is open or opening.

many focus on the third eye while meditating.

Many believe their "visions' come to them thru the third eye

it's the sixth chakra - an energy center just above the space between the eyebrows.

when a priest is made a lama ... the old practice was to drill that space in the skull.
a good many archaeological findings show the practice was conducted amongst quite a number of cultures, on all the continents. Pretty much spanning the time tht there's been any people anywhere.

it's the center for communication of the mind with spirit. And is believed to be the space where .. that union actually occurs.

hope that helps.

in yogic practice, as well as hindu and many tao, there are ten 'eyes' ten 'ears' and when in a state of elightenment - you can see front back and sides - all at once. you can hear what is said, and what is meant and what the SPirit originally directed the person to say.

pretty cool stuff.

it's the seventh chakra ... that's the spirit one. that's on top of the head ... like where you put your finger when you 'turn yourself around'.

the sixth chakra - is more Mind oriented. Sacred Mind ... but mind just the same.

Hey barb is there one in the center of the body that maybe goes up toward the heart?

because once...I felt heat traveling from round about my center upwards, I thought "s#$t I give the drink away and Now I have a heart attack" lol...but I felt calm and I had what I could only describe as the best experience of my life. Afterwards I couldn't get my hands on William James's book quick enough..lol

Just wondering...

1st chkra - right in the genetalia.
2nd chakra - two/three fingers below the navel.
3rd chakra - about a finger or so .. above the navel. some like to think it's right AT the bnavel, byut ... not the people I learned it from.
4th chakra - right at the sternum bone - that's the 'heart' chakra. teaches open heart to heart communication and interaction with everything from a place of intimacy.
5th chakra - right at the little dippy thing at the base of the throat. communication.

6th ... ok we already did that one, and the seventh. sometimes a bit above that, but most easily imagined or 'found' there.

this isn't written in stone (heh - well, actually it IS) but is what I got taught as a kid.

hey happysoul - in fact, I have heard of it doing that.
(piercing affecting the chakra)

also, I was taught that some surgeries (that incisions go directly into the chakra path) affect the spin as well. there's breathing excersized to do to help restore the balance. Injuries do, too.

it 'system' WILL right itself ... eventually. (after an injury, I mean) The chakras balance and replenish themselves all the time but do it best while we're sleeping. even better when we dream.
And of course the more we learn and grow - they spin faster and shine brighter.

as far as brain structure goes, I wonder if focusing attention there stimulates activity (front of the brain in the borderlands between hemispheres)

or whether it might be a null spot where focusing attention doesn't stimulate much

would be interested to know

When I was doindg these studies I was told by a master that focus can in fact stimulate such activity.

the important thing is consistent practice.... something I fall short of sometimes si the consistency..
With your eyes closed in a quiet place [you can have relaxing music if you choose] and turn your eyes upward towards what would be thr\e third eye.
the other very important thing I was taught was beginnning with a prayer of gratitude before berginning and ask for the peace you need remian in that quiet space and the ability to divorce all thoughts that may come in. and it goes without saying to ask for the Will of the Great Spirit.
There are times I received symbols...which always baffel me . I asked my teacher about this and was instructed to ask for the "Messages to be strong and clear"

Thank for the reminder ...I need to get back into doing this again as part of my meditations.

Becasue we are all a bit different [just not terminally unique...just differetn (lol)] in our methods of meditation ...you can also do a google search and recieve a host of sites that you can choose what works best for you. There are guided mediatations...music for meditation ...techniques for specific issues...as well as links to teachers and masters..etc...etc
