It is a shame the we humans have used religion as something to divide us when the word religion is rooted in a latin word that means to bind together. I think all religions are part of the glorious plan.

an old meditation teacher i knew once called religion as the sacred name for your relationship with god, so holy that it had its own name. i used to connect it with organised religion such as "the" church but for me religion is the relationship that binds us into, with and through God and i don't see it as different to spirituality as i used to. i hope one day people will see the similarities we all share.

I was talking with a friend the other day about where my journey has brought me so far. In a little known letter, Bill Wilson called AA "the religion that is not a religion." Probably because it encompasses them all, but can you imagine the outcry if that were a public statement? But I believe that the 12 Step path is a definite spiritual path and that in and of itself it is sufficient. There is enough contained within it to keep me busy and excited and on my toes the rest of my life. It has brought me to a place where I can pray with anyone, regardless of theological or doctrinal differences. Ocassionally I attend a Quaker meeting and sit in silence. I love to "make a joyous noise unto the Lord" with the Pentecostals. This afternoon I will praying in the native way in a sweat lodge. I love midnight mass on Christmas Eve at the cathedral. There is something about the ritual and pagentry that calls down the Presence of God to me, which is what I think it supposed to do. Think about it, a way of life that allows for limitless expansion! Blessings, Jim |
