The coldest Miller "ponies" I could get right out
of my freezer. There was something refreshing
about the ice crystals that formed in those cold
glass bottles.

Then my all time favorite was the gallon Carlo Rossi
jug wine in the darkest red color i could find.

Out of all my poisons I drank, wine was quicker to
drink and kept me in my addiction till I turned 30
when I put the plug in the jug, picked up a recovery
program and hopped off the crazy train of insanity
in August 1990.

By the grace of my HP, Higher Power, the program
of AA and folks like you here in SR, I haven't found it
necessary to have my misery refunded back to me as
I inch towards my 32nd year of continuous sobriety.

OMG the quantities consumed.. the only good news in that is most have to quit sooner, while they are still relatively young.

At my worst, in my 40's, it was a six pack a night for me, of craft beer. In more recent years 3-4 beers or glasses a wine. I still love the taste of good beer and wine. Yet even that amount was enough to make me feel uncomfortably numb.. and ramp up the insomnia, anxiety and shame I suffer from unless I remain sober. That's what decades of drinking will do to you.

I have been sober for ...4 days. Since spring, it went from bad to worse.... it was typically 7-10 drinks per week... a drink for me was a bottle of wine, 13 oz of liquor, or 26 oz of beer. I decided to give myself my best gift for my birthday next month. Also going in Europe in the next days and I really want to enjoy it.

That's a helpful question. I was drinking straight vodka and cheap box wine. Not sipping "one or two" with dinner. Drinking furtively and copiously to keep off the shakes. I voluntarily checked into rehab and it took ten days to get healthy and sane enough to continue outpatient treatment.

I'd be right back there in very short order if I ever let the lie that I can control my drinking creep back into my brain.

Pinot gris and more pinot gris, and then more pinot gris. That was the problem - the more.
