I think my first real drunk was when I was about 15 or 16 so it was probably around 1978 - 1979. I was hanging out with my friend who was a year younger than me and we took a ride with his sister's boyfriend who was much older. The guy bought beer and we rode around and got drunk.

From that time until I was 25 I only got drunk a few dozen times; I smoked a lot of pot and didn't hang with many drinkers. My father was an alcoholic and I didn't want to be like him.

But the heavy boozing started in 1989 and for the next 27 years I got drunk every day.

Today I am 158 days sober.

Congrats on the 158 days! I too started boozing in 1989, the year after graduating high school and the year of my first DWI. I also smoked a ton of pot. We cruised around listening to a rock station that had a joint smoking pig as a mascot.

what a blast from the past hearing boones farm and ripple mentioned. I would have to believe that stuff disappeared ages ago.

boones farm apple wine was my start. my friend and I would get one of our older brothers to buy us a case now and then and we would hide it in the bushes by the railroad tracks where we would drink it. it was dirt cheap. we were around 15 yrs. old. I recall getting drunk but not sick. really can't remember as it was over 40 yrs. ago.

that was the beginning of my rapid spiral downwards. lots of drugs and alcohol. I have been lucky. seen many go by the wayside from either one or the other over the yrs. including the friend I just mentioned. he was found dead on the couch about 8 yrs ago along with his g.f. from a bad batch of heroin. wish I never got started.

My mother always had Ripple in the fridge.

When I was in high school I sometimes hit the bottle before I would get on the school bus in the morning. That was my breakfast.
