I am not a 12 step person and I have been a non-drinker for many years. I do understand how you feel, and have had many of the same experiences myself. Please know that your experiences are valid.
Are you currently drinking?
Recovery groups are not the only option. Many people find quitting and changing their lives to be a deeply personal experience and are not much on sharing with others. This is done all the time and has likely been done since the beginning of time.
You can end this addiction. I second Algorithm's post to look into AVRT. I also suggest reading this forum thoroughly and looking into the myriad alternate methods people have used to reclaim their lives from addiction.
