So Tired but Can't Sleep
I feel ya, sweetichick. I had bad insomnia due to anxiety and heart palpitations for a few months after getting sober. Everyone kept saying it gets better, but I was skeptical. It really does get better though - I promise! At nine months now and the bad anxiety/palpitations are the exception and no longer the rule. Here's what has helped me a lot:
- Don't smoke before bed (if you smoke)
- Don't take hot showers or baths right before bed (give it at least a couple hours)
- No caffeine (this is hard for some)
- Go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even if you don't fall asleep
- As soon as you feel up to it, exercise as much as you can stand
- Don't drink/take drugs (seems obvious but it's easier to fall back into the cycle when you're sleep deprived)
It will get better, I swear.

It gets better. My sleep was out of wack for a month before it got better. I was weirded out by the connection. No booze no sleep? I guess its your body cleaning out the poison from the years of abuse.
I hope you get some rest soon.
