I'm not a big fan of labels-- except the positive ones!

Welcome!

I still have trouble saying the word alcoholic and prefer to dance around it but I've been sober 3 months and feel amazing. I know the struggle is never gone but currently I'm proud of how far I have come enough to take on the challenge working with my therapist to little by little become more comfortable with the idea and facing saying the words. As others have said, the most important part is that you're not drinking anymore. Everything else you can work at bit by bit. Good luck, thanks for posting and unknowingly convincing me to do the same! <3
Wow! I never thought my action of joining would have an effect on someone else. I I am glad you are here, and thank you for the advice

Sending lots of hugs and love your way. We are all so close to where you are right now. You have made the right decision to stop drinking. Think of the dui as a blessing if it can save your life.

SR has helped me everytime I fell down and they will do the same for you. Good job on day 4 .

Welcome to SR, Finallyrdy, and congratulations on choosing a better way of life in recovery. There's a ton of great support to be found here.

Here's what's worked for me:

1. Ask for help as soon as I need it.
2. Help others when I can even if it's just to say "hello" or "I'm listening" to someone hurting.
3. Remember that it's the first drink that's the problem. As long as I don't take that first one, I don't have to worry about the second or third or eighth one that would usually follow for me. I don't have to take that first drink today no matter what crazy rationalizations or sweet nothings my addiction tries to whisper in my ear.

Wishing you the best today!
