I'm trying again to give up drinking
That's how I started, John, 100-some days ago. I was buying cheap beer after work each night and drinking until 2 a.m. I stopped drinking by coming to SR, reading almost everything people were writing, and posting often, and you can do it too!
What's the plan John? Lots of people have responded to your thread but you have not responded to what anyone has said. Has anything that anyone has mentioned made an impression on you or been helpful?
You're approaching 8 days. Do you still plan to use "distraction" as your only method of staying sober?

Congrats! Your symptoms sound about right. And I often really do get a cold in early detox. I know I have to plan my days the night before. Make sure I'm being proactive and not sort of sitting there wondering what to do with myself.
I was also so tired of waking up thirsty, headache, in a fog of a hangover. Every day. Also wondering what I did, said, who I called, and who I had to apologize to.
Welcome.

Made it to day 8 with out a drink feeling on top of the world right now. I brought a smoothie machine so swapping beer & wine for smoothies, it's the future. Feel like I have climed out of hole, the bad dreams have stopped and when I wake up in the morning I feel born again!!!
Hi John, that's fabulous!!! The first week or two are the hardest, bravo! It feels really good not to be hungover, doesn't it? Listen, do whatever works for you....some folks are a little pushy in demanding to know your "plan" and "what you're going to do about it" but I think they are ultimately trying to help. That would put me off if I was just getting sober. There are a lot of ways to stop drinking. I went to inpatient rehab and came out without a real "plan," yet I've been sober almost 8 months. No AA meetings or anything like that. Reading and posting on here really helps. Stay strong!
