well... maybe you could look at it another way; be EXCITED to your core.

choose to get excited about the upside....

choose to focus on all that you are capable of being, doing, becoming, experiencing, loving and giving when you choose to live in sobriety.

it doesn't need to be about pain and fear... it can be about excitement and discovery.

unfortunately, for most of us that doesn't prove a significant enough motive and we have to keep driving ourselves deeper and deeper into a black hole until the pain or consequences are too great to ignore or dismiss.

still... isn't it worth making a choice that YOU will take a different path. That instead of waiting until pain and fear make it inevitable, you will spend those years experiencing wonderful things and growing and giving and living?

I donno... seems legit to me.

I have decided to give SMART Recovery a try. I've overlooked it many times due to the limited amount of face to face meetings close to me. I assumed online meetings wouldn't compare to a face to face meeting .. but I have been listening to one for a half hour or so and it is a much better experience than I expected.

I read on your thread that you had 5 months, Thomas. You know more about staying sober than I do. I made it to 11 days once ... but I'm sure you learned a lot of valuable ways to stay sober in 5 months that will help put you back on the right path.

Don't stay down on yourself.

Keep those thoughts at the forefront. Hopefully it will be an effective deterrent when you feel like drinking, and how it will be harmless.

Hi thomas11,

I think remembering the negatives of drinking is a good tool but in the past I've used it as my only tool.

So I'm planning to use more than one tool this time.
