Day 2: Feeling drowsy

I love this forum and am currently 30 hours in since my last drink.

Last night I took an antihistamine in order to facilitate sleep on my first alcohol-free night.

Luckily I have a break in my work schedule and so I have been able to take it easy.

What surprises me is that I am feeling exhausted! I have been laying on the lounge all day watching TV and struggling to keep my eyes open.

I'm fine emotionally and am actually happy about the decision that I've made to live a sober life.

Just feeling exhausted!

I find that antihistamines make me drowsy as well. Doesn't matter if it says non-drowsy on the package or not.

I think a certain amount of fatigue is normal.

Also, in my experience antihistamines can make me feel groggy the next day too.

Hope you have a great natural sleep tonight TV

I felt fatigued in the first two weeks and still do a bit. I'm trying to take it slowly.

Thanks Steely. I have been taking it easy all day and am not feeling as tired now. Did the washing up and a load of laundry and laid back on the lounge.
I know that pushing myself to do too much at this stage can be a drinking trigger and sobriety has to come first.
I have also been sweating a lot but have passed the 36 hour point so hopefully that will ease soon.

Good luck with your journey. It sounds as though you are on your way.

That's exactly how I'm doing it Tiger. I'm not writing War and Peace or anything just doing as you, get the washing done, wash dishes, hopefully make bed, eat (best I can) and not push myself with an expectation that I must get EVERYTHING done. I try to not give myself a hard time when I retire to the couch because I am SOBER and in which case it's permissible. I need to retire! The sweats will be gone soon, so don't forget to hydrate. From little things big things grow. Hang in Tiger.

I've been reading the book Living Sober and it explains that our sleep patters will likely be upset by alcohol but they return to normal when we spend time sober.

I was exhausted for a few months. Be good to yourself and rest when you need to. Your body is healing and rebalancing. I remember wondering if I would ever feel normal again. It takes time, and all of a sudden you will feel great. Hang in there.
