Because of my experience, I can get triggered when someone's addicted loved one suddenly claims they wants to stop and seek help after their secret is revealed. It's the old "recovery card" tactic.

I knew my husband was taking pain pills, he was getting them prescribed by his Dr. I didn't think much of it at first. I conveniently called it "a pill problem." I NEVER thought he would become an addict. To my surprise, he was already a full blown addict by the time I started to figures things out. It was shortly after I found SR that he suddenly wanted help! Oh, I was so thrilled. Posters here warned me, but I was still believing we were terminally unique.

He played the recovery card so well and I was filled with hope. Most of it was all one more scam to keep me hooked.

When I read the same old "recovery card" posts.....I hope and pray that their loved one is one of the few that actually mean it and fight their addiction with everything they have but I usually can't help but roll my eyes with skepticism.

Here is my experience and what triggers me, sometimes still!!
