Day 1

Well, I have gone about 30 days before without drinking and have always come back to it. I want give it a kick because I found myself looking to 5pm every day to go have several drinks after work and then would end out or up till 2am many nights.

The next day at work would be painful but I would make it through. Hasn't caused any major job issues, but I assume that would only be a matter of time.

Drinking has caused me numerous fights with my family and they recognize the need for a change. It has also caused numerous self destructive behaviors that could be significantly detrimental. Many times I will black out and not remember what I did completely the night before.

I have an inflamed liver already and the doctor has told me I need to stop drinking but just haven't been able to.

So here in day 1 coming back again.

Thanks Coldfusion. I have been reading for a long time. I just finished a 4 day drinking binge and there so much I don't remember at all which is super scary not knowing what I did. I know I wasn't driving, but everything is completely gone for much of it. This feeling of being so low is awful. It's time for me to kick this habit completely.

Well. A couple. First. Fill up some of my time with other activities, to keep my mind busy. Next come here for support as often as I need it. 3rd, I'll need to talk to my wife since while she knows I drank a lot, I am not sure she knew it all.

Welcome to sr trying.

I can relate to your situation. I too blew a 30, then a 60 day sober stretch.

Everyone here is so very supportive.

Hope to see you posting again.

Thanks Mystified,
It helps knowing others have the same struggles. My family and me personal health with this have been the major ones!!!!

Alcohol just makes me act different and feel good (or so I think till the next day), so then I get stupid.

Hi 1-2-3,

Welcome to the forum. I started here 3 weeks ago and have been sober for a little over two weeks. I could not have made it without the peer support that is available 24-7 on SR. We can all relate to what you are going through; take care of yourself and keep posting.

I've found checking in on the 24 hour recovery connections thread to be incredibly helpful.

Sorry can't post a link.

Even though it has almost been 2 days since my last drink, I am not counting the first day since I was still drunk. The sweats are one of the worst things. Then I have tingly feelings on my body in different places and wondering what medically is wrong with me.

Trying,

I could have written your post.
Except for the line about the wife.

Don't lose your wife.....

I could have written this too....

In fact, I did write something similar; in my actual life story.

I went 45 days once.... that was several years ago. About 7 now, I guess. Also a second DUI and a second marriage ago.....

Based on what I racked up in terms of consequences and life lost.... I hope that you'll find your journey to fully embracing sobriety much shorter.

Welcome, Trying. If the going gets too rough while withdrawing, please call your doctor or go to the ER.

Thanks everyone,
Seems like made it through day, athough was invited out for drinks and almost said yes, really wanted to, but I made the wiser choice. Whew, actually waned on me. I guess my recent drinking decisions and the bad choices have worn on me. I told my wife about the blacking out and not knowing what I did for several days, she was very supportive, so I am off to doctor tomorrow.

Basically for the past numerous years, I would drink 6 nights a week at a minimum and have no less than 2 bottles of wine. Usually 3 or 4 (or equivalent hard alcohol or beer) And this was only over about a 6 hour period each evening. She always told me I needed to stop and put up with me.... Black outs were fairly common.

I hate saying this, but it helps knowing others had troubles also and not alone.
