Concert

All alone at my reward concert (reward for a week of sobriety in November).

This is a little weird. Will be better once the music starts I guess.

No beer for me no matter what though.

Enjoy the performance, Stella.

When do you leave for NYC?

My first sober concert was in October at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Eric Church, people around us got D.R.U.N.K. smoking weed, the whole 9 yards. it was a weird experience to be sober. I bought the tix before I declared my sobriety. I can't say I would recommend a concert in early sobriety, but everyone is different. Hope it doesn't drive you nuts like it did me...

I'm good. People have obviously been to christmas parties and drinking before the show, but I'm not tempted. Just feeling a bit like an outsider. Interesting to just be an observer though.

Drunk people apparently pass a lot of gas in public. This I did not know. One of many interesting observations.

The concert was great. Jo Nesbo (famous crime writer), my favourite Norwegian singer/songwriter/notorious bachelor. Left when people started getting too drunk, also to avoid the traffic. Nice to get a good night's sleep as the last day in the office was hectic.

Now my bag is packed, and I'm ready for NY.

I spent some time this evening chatting with a guy I met more than 2 years ago. We had a fling, but he was hard on the drink and weed and I knew it would be too easy to spiral down with him. We've met now and then, always drinking. He is one of my favourite people apart from the fact that he has no place to live, no job and so on. Well, two days ago he started a 3 month inpatient program (he tried outpatient last summer, failed miserably). I know he doesn't have any sober friends, so we talked and I agreed to come visit in January. Very excited for him, and very motivated to be a sober friend when he gets out.

Contemplating more than friendship (I know he's in love with me), but I will tread carefully for both our sakes.

I recently read The Snowman by Nesbo. I didn't realize he also sang!

First he was a promising soccer player, then successful stock broker, then musician (his lyrics are great!) in one of our most popular bands (for the past 25 years or so), then he started writing, making millions. Some people can do anything. Apart from relationships, he's suffering from social anxiety. Always found that fascinating.

Hi Stella.

Aah, so good for you, I like Jo Nesbo. Glad you had a good time at the concert.

You know, I would stay away from that guy in any other way than platonic friendship (and that also only if he does get sober). I totally understand the attraction and temptation -- these kinds of discussions come up here quite often -- but in the grander scheme it may just not be worth it. There are so many great people who don't come in the same package with a drinking problem, our own is probably enough.

I hope you will enjoy NY! I've been living in NYC now for ~5 years (also originally from Europe) and I am still in love. You will have so many interesting options for activities on your vacation and it's very easy to get around in the city. Have fun

I've attended some great concerts in my life.

I know this because I have the ticket stubs.

At some of them I don't recall if they even played any music.

Stay sober, the memories will be better.
