I can be recovered from a gunshot wound, and yes, it doesn't make me bulletproof. But then again, nobody is bullet proof. I can make a promise to stop shooting myself in the foot however. That gunshot wound didn't happen by accident or random act of chance. I took aim and pulled the trigger.

I think my sobriety is too important to leave to depend on anything, especially my spiritual condition. It is permanent, unchangeable and unconditional.

That makes a lot of sober sense. I got shot by the liquid devil. I was in recovery and recovered. If I play with fire again, I may just get shot again. Possibly no chance for another recovery ?

Still sounds self inflicted to me, MM Bob. There was only one person doing any shooting. For me anyway, there is no possibility ever of another round in the chamber.

I have heard that said before and admit that it sounds good on paper. I do believe that I'm done with drinking. I've rode that horse many times and eventually I always get thrown off. It's like touching a very hot stove. I do now believe that it's hot and will burn me every time I touch it.

I know who to keep an eye on today.

I consider myself fully recovered, and in fact significantly improved in most every way compared with my earlier drinking self, so long as I never drink again. I guess it depends what we mean, if recovered means "can go back to drinking normally as if nothing bad had ever happened", then I don't think it's true for me - or for any other former addict I've ever met.

I've proven over and over again, returning to the drink in any form does not work well for me. Recovered as long as I stay in recovery.
