AA meetings without the 12 steps?
I think Mentium has said something quite important here. So I’m going to expand on it.
Perhaps sharing the two links below on a thread started by someone with 3 days might seem a little odd. Nevertheless here goes.
People who consider themselves to be in the rational and scientific camp should listen to what the cutting edge of modern physics is exposing to us right now about the nature of reality. One very interesting fellow is Peter Russell. He trained at Cambridge with Steven Hawking so he’s no lightweight. Here is a link The Primacy of Consciousness - Peter Russell - Full Version - YouTube
There are a host of others. Here is a link to Anton Zeilinger (a prominent quantum physicist) speaking with the Dali Lama. The Dalai Lama and Quantum Physics 1/6 - YouTube
You have to ask yourself why so many prominent physicists are taking a closer look at ‘spirituality’.
Keep a very broad definition of ‘higher power’. Investigate on your own and keep an open mind. If you do IMO, you can’t go wrong.

I've been going to AA for 28+ years, with a ten year vacation from meetings in the middle of that, stayed clean and sober the entire time. The religious stuff isn't for me either. BUT!! I'm happier, healthier and having more fun when meetings are a regular part of my recovery exercises. Meetings make it easier in the beginning....
All those fantastic suggestions about what to do and not to do to achieve abstinence and keep it is wonderful stuff.
Go, learn what you can, listen and relate, don't compare (some are sicker than others) and leave the rest when you leave.
AA isn't an all or nothing, black and white proposition. Shades of grey.
I was at a meeting the other night and a guy said "You have to get down on your knees and pray if you want to stay sober." I thought, "Oh sheet! I screwed up! I've been sober since 1984 and have never, not once done that!"
AA doesn't keep me clean and sober -- it shows me things I can do to help myself stay clean and sober by people that are staying clean and sober -- and it is just one of the recovery resources in my toolbox for continued healthy living. Plus the coffee is free.....
Either way, best of all to you.....

Thank You for posting those links Awuh1, Physics, conscious awareness and all those topics are fascinating. Trying to merge hard science and spirituality seems to have a lot of conflicts but we know so little in the whole scheme of things. I joined the school of "I Don't Know".
BackToSquareOne, That’s my point. It’s not in conflict. Much of science and spirituality only seem to be in conflict until you take a close look. Look at the “Tao of Physics”, or “Dancing with Wu Li Masters”. It’s a good place to start. It will get ya thinkin!
People like Carl Jung were ahead of their time. Jung worked with Wolfgang Pauli (a Nobel prize winning physicist) on Jung’s ideas concerning synchronicity. Synchronicity has recently become a term used by physicists in connection with quantum entanglement!
Sorry to throw around these terms. They will likely be unfamiliar to some folks. I mention this stuff only because it is so absolutely remarkable, and it’s based on hard science. Investigate it for yourself. It’s amazing!
