Hi Jeni, good to hear from you. It sounds like you have a great plan for a quieter life and I am sure it can't come soon enough. I know how much you loved your job but it did sound stressful! Well done on getting your mum sorted too.
I am doing okay but just came online today to post on the friends and family pages. My partner ended up with heart failure and although his condition is probably genetic, his drug use certainly hasn't helped. I think I have underestimated the impact of this on me and although this is potentially a positive turning point in his life I have little trust anymore and think I just need a few home truths and time to process all this. Apparently during the pandemic when he was off work he did a lot of speed and this is a major contributing cause. We will know more in a few months when he has his next scan but it is really bad - his ejection fraction was at 16% so really not functioning at all.
I think another part of it is that I feel like I am carrying yet another secret about drug/alcohol abuse and I have done this already! I did a talk at my workplace about my recovery and I feel really positive about my own achievement and although I could be helpful and supportive to my partner another part of me resents having to carry any of this. Fortunately his family know so I can talk to them but it is still a secret from his work colleagues and everyone else.
I hope everyone else on this thread it doing okay x

Hey Hypo,

So sorry to hear about your partner. I pray that he makes a full recovery and that this is the end of his using. As we get older, I think our bodies just can’t cope with what us alcoholics and addicts put them through, sooner or later it catches up with us. Send me a text if you ever need a friendly ear ❤️

I’m doing well, busy with studying and working with young people in a counselling capacity now instead of an educational one. I’m loving it and feel so privileged to be able to support them in this way. How life changes once we get long term sobriety and realise we control our futures.

Hope you’re doing OK too Dee ❤️

Hey everyone,
As always, this class brings me great nostalgia because it was my first, sincere attempt to get sober. It took me 8 more years, but as of May 15, 2022 I celebrated 2 years sober. Thankful and will always be indebted to SR and this class in particular.
