Just got a big dose of "life on life's terms"
Just got a big dose of "life on life's terms"
Well, I've just been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Wow, what a shock. I am enveloped in fear and anxiety. I'm really fortunate though that I have the AA program of recovery and my Higher Power to hold me close. If it weren't for the program, I think I'd be a drunk basket case by now.
Getting hit with news like this is really a reminder of, (caution: corny slogan alert), one day at a time!

Sorry to hear that..... you'll be in my prayers for sure.
On another note.....this seems like a great topic to toss up in the newcomers' area. Let some of them see how life's problems don't HAVE to make us drink again.

I wish you strength and the power needed to experience this Wake Up.
My "aunt - in - law" is a "Survivor", I'm not sure of what kind of cancer but she throws herself into helping others deal with the news, the treatments, the new life etc.. after.
Sounded an awful lot like how we do with our alcoholism. Perhaps you could look them up and reach out to them and get some ESH ?
Might even be someone in the program too. My sponsor had prostate cancer two years ago and he relied upon the experience of several men in our network to help him through.
God Bless.

Very hard news. Though this does mean you acted to find out the truth and didn't ignore your health concerns out of fear. Thats the sober way, taking good care of yourself. I'm glad you're seeking in the direction you mentioned for solace at this time.
Some of the worst things in my life have turned out to be the greatest blessings (one of them being my alcoholism). I simply don’t understand why all these bad things need to happen, yet I know there is a reason.

It truly humbles me when I hear of some people's problems in sobriety .
And if I'm honest , I'm a little ebarrassed for the stupid little things I've moaned about today .
Your be in my prayers when I get out of this truck .
I'm not a huggy sort of person but I'm sending you one tonight from over the pond .
Bless you x

hugs from me as well. Like shauan said- places many things in perspective.... I have a sponsee whose wife went thru diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. She too is in AA and she now also makes herself available to other women with that diagnosis.
again, hugs....
again, hugs....
Thanks for the kind words everybody.
I am in the middle of a long, grueling 5th Step. My sponsor asked "What resentments do you have against your cancer?" I said what was there to be resentful about? I have cancer and that is that. She said "Start writing and call me back in an hour."
An hour later, I had two pages of resentments that I read to her.

Sorry to hear that, Wake Up. Two of my sister's are survivors:
Sis number #1 has 14 years cancer free after her mastectomy.
Sis number #2 has 9 years cancer free after lumpectomy.
Healing thoughts being sent out to you and yours.
