Arrow Big Book Quote

*~*~*~*~*^ Big Book Quote ^*~*~*~*~*

If we are planning to stop drinking, there must be no reservation of any kind, nor any lurking notion that some day we will be immune to alcohol.

Just MY personal experience here: I had reservations galore about stopping and plenty of lurking notions that I'd go back to it one of these days........and that was almost 5 yrs ago.

.....I had some outside help though. An alcohol tether I wore for 9 months "forced" me to not get drunk.....and during that time I got a sponsor, went to meetings, and started to work the program.

The only reason I bring this up is that, for me, it wasn't a requirement that I had to be fully committed to a life of sobriety from day one to begin a life of sobriety....... It sure would have made those early days easier to get through had I been more committed to it but it seems (to me) that if you'll take the action of the steps even if you don't necessarily believe in them or even when you're not sure you want what they offer.....they tend to work just as well as when you do want it and do believe in it.

I to had a lot of reservations and I also had spent so many years in & out of AA that I really thought I was the one they talked about in how it works. Some of us are constitutionally incapable of being honest with themselves. I know today that was just another excuse in my long list of them.
When I started looking at alcohol as a poison I was putting into my body, instead of it being a solution to my problems something changed. Also couple that with getting a sponsor, doing the steps & service work, and most importantly finding a HP to take the reigns.
Anyway this is just my ES&H. Have a great night all!
