I just make the universe and pretend that God does not exist. That the power of the program comes from collective conscious of man and beauty of creation even if it created by chance. The universe shows the infinite beauty of randomness and how chance can great such harmony. It comes for part of the brain that creates music, art, books, and wisdom. It comes from the great spiritual teachers and philosophers that lived eons ago and today. It is wonder of the infinite cosmos, of infinite universe, to the beauty of infinite and complex and chaotic universe. God could be an figment of imagination and yet there is something to be amazed. So many thing to be grateful for. Yes, atheism and agnosticism can be intensively spiritual. Even the prayers can help us live in a higher state of conscious. Even if there is no God The secular program does work. It is not spoken about much in the rooms but it does exist. And our program because we do not need a God to remain sober. We do not worry if we lose faith in God because it is power of the human conscious and its collective spirituality. Unlike God, this is proven to exist and we can see it and feel it within our souls. If people tell me that they faith in God, I just tell them to bet on God. Because I do not know if God exists. I strongly believe in the possiblity that God is a figment our imagination. However, I have no proof to demonstrate that God does not exist. And there could be a universial conscious that we have not evolved to the level to make conscious contact with. Our finite and mere attempts called religion has failed us to see the true nature of the divine if does exist. - Thoughts from a Sober Agnostic |

Non-theist here .I have found it useful to have a HP that is true according to my experience. For me the reality of cause and effect is something that I cant escape. So I made it one of my understandings of a HP. What I can escape from is other peoples understandings of a HP, Bill W's included. Its easy for me to change my mind on mystical or mythological powers. But I cant change the fact that cause and effect exist. Sure when I was drugging I could become delusional about causation, especially my part in it. But I don't want to have a HP that reminds me of my past delusions in active addiction.

I'm a religious pantheist. My spirituality is tremendously important in my life, and my recovery, but I have no god. I believe the Universe is ultimate reality and I am a part of that process known as the Universe. I've been a pantheist for nearly twenty years and there is no cut and paste way to work the 12 steps, that I can see, using Universe as higher power...so I've cobbled together my own recovery program. I don't want to waste energy arguing spirituality with other 12 steppers, especially when we all have spirituality and each of ours works for us...why argue? But I do have people tell me that there is no way I can stay clean with my idea of a HP... so, I am glad there is a place here on these forums where people of a variety of spiritualities as well as secular ideologies can shoot the breeze. The Universe doesn't give a rat's ass about my sobriety. Sobriety is MY agenda, and a good one, but the Universe isnt going to save me from myself. It isn't going to fix any defects, because it recognizes none... I'm not familiar with the other programs spoken of here...time to do my homework. |

| I would be interested in knowing what your program is - really. I collect them and look for overlapping truths.
