Someone at my NA meeting said "That door knob can be your Higher Power, but be careful, it may turn on you!" I was crackin' up! I am still trying to find that HP, not sure what my faith is anymore.....

I believe the images like that one are and many others like that are taken with a wider light spectrum than we can see with our eyes. the colors are real however.

That is cool. I don't mind as long as it is mentioned. And Nasa is good about letting us know when it is an artists rendition, or enhanced. Otherwise, you are right...we could not see it with a naked human eye.

“God as we understood Him” A.A. History Time Saver Number One Dick B. ©2008 Anonymous. All rights reserved • Steps Three and Eleven of our Big Book originally contained the word “God” without qualification. Pass It On, page 198. • After a dispute in the office of Ruth Hock, the secretary who typed the manuscripts, it was decided to change the language to “God as we understood Him.” Dick B., Twelve Steps for You, 19-20, 25. • Though one early AA claimed authorship of the expression, Bill Wilson never specifically stated its source. • We now know that Bill Wilson had extensive conferences with Rev. Sam Shoemaker as the Big Book was being assembled. We also know that Bill asked Sam to write the Twelve Steps and that Sam declined suggesting that Bill should write them. Dick B., New Light on Alcoholism, 357-84, 8-10, 73. • We also know that the expression “God as you understand Him” was in common use by Sam Shoemaker in his writings at least as early as the date of his title, Children of the Second Birth. Dick B., New Light on Alcoholism, 95-97, 156.

Google is AMAZING!!! You can find almost anything. Ya know what I never understood is why Wilson didn't change his sobriety date. I mean really...I went to a meeting when I was about 2 months sober and this poor guy that had about the same amount of time as I did shared that he had been sick and took some Nyquil...my God you would have thought he was drinking right there in the meeting. The meeting happened to be a chip meeting and wouldn't you know it they berated him until he picked up a white chip. Personally I would think the use of LSD would demand the same action. Hypocrisy at its finest! Thank you Dick for the clarification. GOD in the bb means exactly what every thinking human knows it to mean. A divine deity...the word manipulation and false pretense that it can mean a Group Of Drunks is an insult to those who tend to think rationally.

I guess, in all seriousness, Wilson thought of it as therapeutic. Which goes to prove (again) that some drunks will do anything to rationalise a buzz LOL. ![]() D

I do believe I once read an explanation of his LSD use as an attempt to obtain better conscious contact with God, expanding his spirituality if you will. LOL Hey, don't hog the popcorn!

Interesting read. I have always loved how James Wood played Bill W. in the movie of his life. I think he captured the manic part of Bill very well. I guess they left that part out of the movie...as well as the Bill and his wife's "Stepping Stone" room. I love hearing the real, and not all the sugar coating. It would have been interesting to hang with Bill. (In full sobriety.) I have always wondered why so many hard core AAers are against therapy. I see it as just one more tool in my recovery belt. And why did they get mad at Bill for going. Don't they understand that the program and other resources can all work together?

Ok...what is going on? I can't read the "You post is being Moderated". It flashes to fast. Why can't we talk about Bill W and his Acid trip? It is already out there. Common knowledge. Anyway, Windy...my replies keep being censored. But your original reply did not bother me. I thought it was funny and interesting.

If you have questions you can send a private message. One of the moderators removed a couple of posts due to the remarks about the drug and felt it was inappropriate for a recovery forum. There was also a concern that the thread is going off topic from the original post.
