Once upon a time, on the 4th of July, Gabe and Spicoli got married. Yeah, I know...weird day to get hitched, but consider the source. Anyhoo, I'm pretty much over being sad on this day since the split. The first couple of years were rough, but I'm back to the 4th being Independence Day and cause for celebration. Apparently, he's not. Wow, I really thought he was beyond what I heard this morning. Lot's of sad stuff about what a mistake it was for him to leave and how he wished he'd never done it. And I have no clue where this is coming from. He knows that he and I are over. I don't know, maybe he just took a bad turn down Memory Lane. And of course, I let him drag me there with him. But not for long. He and I had some good years. We have a son together who is the joy of my life. But we weren't right for each other and we didn't make each other happy and that went way beyond the alcoholism. We ended on a very ugly note, but I've gotten beyond that too. I care about him and I want him to be happy. And since I've been getting big red flags about his sobriety lately, this morning added to that worry list. I just burned the worry list in the grill. I don't own his happiness. I don't own his sobriety. I don't own his melodrama. I just tried to for a short while today. I'm getting better at this stuff, I swear I am. |

(((((( Gabe! ))))))) What else are we having at our cookout besides grilled worry? "Ham" salad? Iced Poutsicles? YUM! I didn't know this was your anniversary. An acquaintance of mine is getting married today. I was already worried about her. LOL Anyway, I'm glad you're getting back to celebrating Independence Day again... kind of fitting now that you're not married any more. Hope Spicoli finds his peace, too. Love you! Smoke

"Ham" burgers, those cool red, white and blue poutsicles, with a side of serenity. Believe me, I have taken a lot of grief over the years for getting married on Independence Day. I don't really think of it as an anniversary anymore. It just kind of knocked me out that he does. I think he's just going through a bad patch right now. I'm glad he's firmly entrenched in AA these days. |
