| Life is never boring for me.
Okay, a little background first. 3 years ago I had major surgery, a pyloroplasty, which involves repairing the pyloric valve at the bottom of the stomach. It was almost completely scarred shut when the endoscopy was done, and they couldn't even get the scope past the valve. I have a 'zipper' from belly button to breastbone, and that was the most painful part of the healing process, the long incision. Today I have given a whole new meaning to 'bust a gut'. It appears that when I was ill recently with a gastrointestinal bug that landed me in ER, and it took tons of meds to finally get me to stop wretching, I started a tear in the abdominal wall where the surgery was done. I have one hell of a hernia right now. Seriously, I could audition for the role of an alien-impregnated person for the next sequel to Aliens. I have to call the surgeon first thing in the morning who did the pyloroplasty and get it fixed immediately. I am very nervous about coughing right now! Everyone should have this much fun on semester break! P.S. The good news is my classes don't start till the 17th, so I will long be done with any pain pills post-op and ready to concentrate.

Doesn't sound fun at all - I am sorry you are going through this. You post scared me as well - My pyloric valve does not work properly, so some of my food stays in my stomach. The doctors found this out by the results of a gastric emptying study. They also found that my gall bladder wasn't functioning, so they took that out, and I am still having pain. I hate that you are having to go through all of this, just know there is someone who can relate.

I feel for you! That is so miserable when your stomach doesn't empty properly. I also had such bad gastric reflux that even the meds weren't helping. It eventually got to the point I couldn't keep any solids down, and that's when they did the endoscopy. I haven't had reflux since the surgery.

I cannot take the medication for delayed gastric emptying, it makes me very depressed, (one of it's side effects). I'm not sure what will happen in the long run.

Hey DeVon, I just read this and I'm sending you (((( gentle hugs ))))) over the internet. I've had that same one-thing-leads-to-another problem. Seems like medical problems never end. I have neuropathy, which swelled up my sinuses giving me chronic sinusitis. So they had to do surgery to clear that up and in the process they fouled up and poked a hole in the bottom of my skull, so know I have inflamation of the brain and monster migraines, so they increased my anti-inflamatories which knocked out my immune system..... and on and on. So I feel for ya Mike (((( hugs )))))

Up long enough to eat and get more fluids down. The ventral hernia was much larger than the surgeon thought, so more extensive surgery and had to use mesh to repair it. I've got a drain in that I'll have removed on Monday when I go back to see him. Youngest AD will help with daily dressing changes. I've also got a fairly wide belly band on to help with the pain, and on mega pain meds. I screamed the first time they got me to sit up in bed after I came out of the anesthesia. I checked in real quick with my AA sponsor-will be at least a week before I'm able to navigate the long flight of steps to my home group. Thanks for all the prayers. I've got to say this is more painful than the stomach surgery I had three years ago!
