| Bad memory? Any tips?
I nearly burnt my house down yesterday. I left my hair straightening irons on all day and only noticed because the smell of them burning a hole in my drawers reached me, late yesterday afternoon. Yikes! The thing that would've upset me the most is my dog stays inside so she would've got burnt to a crisp! My daughter accepts it as a given that I forget to turn the oven off after cooking dinner, these days, too. Part of MS is memory problems. Anyone have any smart tips? I am considering reverting to post it notes but think after awhile they will just become part of my living enviroment, rather than something I'd pay attention to.

My cousin has MS...he was a dentist...unfortunately the shaking ended his practice. I saw him at Thanksgiving (10 yrs since diagnosis) He said that he does have some lapse in memory...puts water up for tea...fire alarm lets him know when the water is done...lol He said he combats this with his blackberry...he runs a homeless shelter now and is never without it..he always puts in alarms and reminders to himself. There was a time when I felt sorry for him...that time has past...he has turned lemons into lemonade. Amazing how human can adapt to anything....best wishes. |

A blackberry or any PDA would be an excellent Idea. I set my cell phone for all kinds of reminders. My husband is in the military and I was years ago...and forgetting things doesn't go over very well so we sync or cell phones every day or so. We're horribly geeky but it works for us.

I feel for you. When my depression is in high gear, and add to that the chronic back pain, well, it's been difficult with memory. I got boiled eggs off the stove the other night, had run cold water over them in the pan to let them cool, and run downstairs to throw clothes in the dryer. When I came upstairs, the burner was still on high on the stove. Sigh. I've got brightly colored big sticky notes, and I know what you mean about them becoming a part of the environment. What I've been doing is swapping one bright color for another each week on each reminder, and sticking it in a slightly different spot (a little higher or lower) so it still gets my attention. Might be worth a try? :ghug :ghug

I've tried PDAs, family calendars on my iGoogle page, running lists. Best I've been able to do is simplify and not take on too much (which is difficult when I'm in school). I do keep a day planner and force myself to refer to it a lot. The "fibro fog" gets me. When I'm having a flare, it's more difficult to remember things, so I become a little more vigilant about the super-important things. I also think I did irreparable damage when drinking/using. I pat myself on the back when I do remember what I need to do. I had three items on my Christmas shopping list (a movie for my husband, a pencil sharpener for my daughter, and tape) that existed only in my head, and I kept finding reasons not to write them down. I really figured I'd come home without one or more of those items--but I remembered! Yay for me! I'm sorry it's so much an issue, Liz. You're not alone. Peace & Love, Sugah

It occured to me today that I should probably call my insurance company to see if I am covered in that sort of event. And now just typing this, if something to do with my MS causes a car accident too. I get blurred/double vision at times.
