My last attack was while I was in rehab. I watched my diet for awhile, took enzymes for a couple of months after getting clean/sober, and I haven't had an attack since I was in rehab. Your doctor would be the one to recommend a special diet and/or medication. There's a lot of information out there on the differences between chronic and acute pancreatitis. To drink with either kind is to risk death. It's nothing to mess around with. The pancreas is not like the liver. Once it suffers serious damage, it doesn't regenerate. Do you consider yourself to be alcoholic? Peace & Love, Sugah

mine was brought on after years of meth and diet pills abuse. My last attack was in August after using nasal spray for a cold. ugh! The best thing you can do to rest your pancreaus I was told by my GI doc is to not eat well done protein (beef) and eat a balanced diet. Over cooked protein is the hardest to break down for the pancreaus. I would eat some mild foods for a while and don't drink! My last attack they kept me for 2 days with nothing but jello and liquids. Have you tried AA yet? great support! Welcome! Sheila |

Hello Destinee1, Does anyone have pancreatitis? I don't have pancreatitis, but someone I know does....my AH. My AH entered the emergency room w/ severe abdominal pain 2 yrs ago, and vomitting. I couldn't figure what could be the matter, except possibly flu. After doing exrays, scopes, etc...they found he had chronic pancreatitis. His pancreas were inflamed badly. Dr. said it was because of his past of alcoholism. How is he managing? Not well.... He has also had years of drug abuse, and continues on percocet and we just found out he's on xanax again. He has had complaints of vomitting the past 3 weeks, I wonder if his pancreas is acting up again, but I'm not saying a thing. I have tried saving his life over and over again. We know if doesn't get off the crap, he's gonna die. He now has to live on pancreas medicine for the rest of his life. It goes to show the effects of alcoholism/drugs can show years later. Pancreatitis is nothing to mess with. As you know if you lose your pancreas you lose your life. I believe if you baby your pancreas now (no more alcohol/drugs), you have a good chance of not having another attack. You don't ever want to get to the stage of chronic. Please Please take good care of it from now on. Hoping the best for you, NH7 |

I had pancreatitis attacks. I AM an alcoholic. I went into organ shutdown twice and the doctors were surprised I lived through the first time, let alone the second one. I just couldnt stop drinking and it would have killed me had I continued drinking. It was the worst pain of my life and I have had alot of surguries. They didnt even allow me to drink water let alone eat jello. I quit drinking and it has gone away. |
