| same planet...different world | So there I was at the Grocery Store...
... because one of the cashiers there and I had been having this ongoing conversation about thyroid problems, and SHE was actually the first one who suggested I tell my doctor about the problems I'vd been having. So now that I've begun this new treck ... diagnosis and blood count in hand... I thought I ought to tell this woman about it and thank her for bringing it up and all. So I get there, and she comes out of the 'mysterious grocery store mirror room' that every grocery store HAS ... (what *is* that room all about, anyhow and why does every grocery store have to have one?) and we start talking about thyroid stuff issues, and... most importantly...weight gain and PAIN. I"m saying .. Within ten minutes - there's a small gathering of maybe six or more women in the front of the grocery store, people who were just 'passing by' while she and I were talking, and- every. single. one... had thyroid problems. Was on medication. coping with joint pain. Something. SOooooo.... I had this thought. I'm making up a poster to put in the GROCERY STORE (of all places) a MEETING of those with thyroid problems. Sort of a support group thing ... For discussion and exchange of ideas and COMPLIMENTARY practices that they've found that help them deal with pain and "energy issues." I've named it - "The Butterfly League" And I think we should meet only once a month. Done With It - I'm gonna tell them about the "rice sox" thing. How's that for turning something negative into a positive? ![]() I was so excited about it - I had to get online earlier than at work and share it with y'all!

barb dwyer; WONDERFUL!!! This is a great thing to start in your area! I don't have thyroid problems myself, been tested 3x though, and it can start at anytime in one's life (especially women), but I think this is the greatest thing you could do for yourself and others! You GO GIRL! Love; Jaz

Thanks! I *love* to start stuff like this up .. but I don't like to stick around to cut the grass. So I"m not one of those who starts a group and then intends to RUN it. I don't even like the idea of that. I'll be back at work tonight - and can get the little flyers typed and printed out.

| same planet...different world | The Thought Just Struck Me...
... that several months ago... I actually got DIAGNOSED by my checkout lady at the grocery store. wow. She knew, dead on ... what was wrong with me. LOL! I'm going by there in the morning - it occurred to me that I might need a MEETING PLACE .. so I had to talk to the GM here at the hotel considering we've got a meeting room that we rent out. So that's a 'go' ... I still haven't got a DATE down ... so I was gonna talk to her about all this. Just wanted to keep everyone up to date on it.

Way to go Barb!!! I think it's really neat that your grocery store lady diagnosed you! My buddy at the grocery store is somewhat of a cat expert, so I ask him questions I have about my cats. Good luck on the support group, I think it's a great idea. I'm a firm believer in ES&H in every situation, wherever it comes from! Hugs and prayers! Amy

Prbably on hold - I found there's a 'support group' at the hospital for this - i'm going togo to it first and see. i've a feeling it's going to be 'do what we say and don't say anything about it' stuff knowing how doctors are - but I've got to gove 'em a chance. Also - found out that the woman at the health food store is pretty hooked in to the thyroid stuff as well. good place for a poster.
