Unfortunately this is too true! Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried. Why do I tell you this? Please read more about the "history of teaching math": Teaching Math In 1950 *************** ******** A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. I was in the Deli at the grocery store the other day.I bought a breakfast bar for 69 cents.Got outside and it was no good(been there all day) So,I brought it back. The lady asked if I wanted another one. No,I dont want another stale breakfast bar thank you.I will take my money back for the breakfast bar and have one of those chicken breasts for $1.50 please, and laid one dollar on the counter. OK she says that will be $2.19. What? $1.50 - 69 cents is 81 cents. She said no its $2.19.Laughing I tried to explain it to her as she broke out a calculator.Again she said that will be $2.19.Then I asked her "you actually handle money for a living?" She had to go get the manager.Very sad.She never did figure it out.
