LANCASTER — A Lancaster construction worker who slipped on the job, triggered a nail gun that shot six of the long projectiles into his head and neck, will join his doctor today to discuss his recovery. Isidro Mejia, 39, had four nails penetrate his skull -- three went into his brain -- in the April 19 accident, according to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. Another of the nails lodged in his vertebral column just below the base of the skull. "The neurosurgeon could not believe Isidro lived. With injuries like that, he should have been dead," a hospital spokesperson told Britain's The Sun newspaper. Mejia was airlifted to the trauma center at Providence Holy Cross and, in less than four hours, Dr. Rafael Quinonez delicately removed five of the nails, according to the hospital. The sixth, stuck in his face, was left in place until the swelling went down and removed April 23, doctors said. |

ooooo, you are a sick pup, Time to Surrender, to post that. And I am even sicker, I came back to study which parts of the brain were effected and would like a follow-up study of the recovery, the damage. Is he permanently paralyzed. Has his visual and emotional centers been permanently damaged? He must be on life support. Do you have the MRI images.? I am gross, I know. I think I had all ready revealed that I have a passion for the neurosciences. Keep me informed, would you. Enquiring minds want to know.

you think that's bad, sooner or later, I will be getting out the anatomy overlays to identify exactly which areas were penetrated and likely prognosis. He may be alive, but he is likely not going to be okay again. Course, I haven't seen the medical reports or the MRI. It looks bad.

neat-o. a friend of mine was roofing and shot a nail through all four fingers of his opposite hand, just missing the bone! it stuck all his fingers together, though. The doctor and nurses were all pretty impressed with the odds of that!!! He still has the nail.

Time to Surrender, I am sorry, I really wasn't calling you a sick pup in a personal way. What do you mean full recovery? Absolutely no aftereffects or damage after having your brain poked full of holes? I wouldn't have thought that possible. I had a friend who was on house detention, which means they remove all weapons. He joked, but I still have my nail gun.
