| Want to quit!
Ok guys...here I am. I have smoked for 15 yrs and I hate it and I want to quit. My hubby also smokes in the house and refuses to go out side to do it so even when I am trying to quit, I have to smell his all the time! I have not had a smoke yet this morning and have no intention of having one. Wish me luck. Any sugestions about what I can do to make this work? Lil

Hi Lilpony! Hating it is good motivation to stay quit. Remember that you only have to do this one day/hour/minute/second at a time and you'll feel less overwhelmed in the early days. Are you doing it cold turkey or with a cessation aid? OneLady is cold turkey and has a thread journalling her experience. I'm using the patch and find it helpful. There's some good info in the "sticky" posts at the top of this forum you can read through for tips. It's too bad about your hubby not agreeing to smoke outside and must make you feel unsupported by him, but there's lots of support here. There's 20-something people on SR who have quit smoking in the past few months, and you can do it too. Be sure to post on the daily check in thread as well.

Hi lilpony, Good for you. We are here to support you. Hating smoking is good, I still love it, so it makes it hard for me. Hopefully you will have an easier time than I am having.

I quit when pregnant with now 21-year old son. Mr. Big did not quit until we brought that son home... so for nearly 9 months, he smoked while I did not. It was irritating. But to be honest, it was my ANGER with him that kept ME motivated! It was like I quit smoking... out of SPITE! I would no more put a cigarette in my mouth than fly to the moon. I would show that ...so and so. His inability to quit would not make ME smoke! Grrrr... I'll show him. Ack! My self-talk was absolutely crazy. But it worked. For me. I wish you the best.... Ok.....I did not last long.... Guess I will have to start again in the morning. I am trying to quit cold turkey, so it is really hard. I do have some welbutrin that my doctor prescribed, so I think I may try that. It is suposed to help you quit. We will see. I will keep trying and I will keep posting. Thanks for being here....Lil

Lilpony; There's lots of help aids out there, and there's no prize for suffering the most, right? ![]() Do whatever it takes to quit. You'll have LOTS of support here. Is it possible to negotiate with the hubby to smoke only in one room? That may help a bit. It's all about behaviors. Start making small changes. Sit in a differnt chair to have your morning coffee. Switch the furniture around in the house, if possible. Drive a different way to work or to the market. Then, bigger, more lasting changes. Go to the gym or do some other arobic workout -- even a good long walk daily. I joined a chorus too. I'm replacing negative smoking behaviors with positive ones; ones that will be effected if I relapse. That gives me the reason not to relapse. Remember, we're here to help. And the patch helped me. It'll help you too. It's better to use it than to keep smoking. You get the nicotine, but not the 500+ chemicals that are killing you. Also, try to think of what you're doing for yourself, rather than what you're missing. And when you do think of what you're missing, remember to add lung cancer; emphazima; COPD....and so on. ![]() YOu can do this, and you are worth it. Keep the quit and post before you puff! Shalom!
