| Dealing with the FEAR
I would like to know if anyone else has experienced these feelings. I will pick a quit date. From the time I pick the date to the date itself, I feel extreme fear. I feel like I am going to die if I don't quit and panic swells. Then the day comes to quit. I stop smoking for 24, or 48 or even 96 hours, living in the FEAR that I didn't quit soon enough, etc. This fear, then has me crying all the time, feeling like I have no life left! The next thing I know, I am picking up a cig. It is ridiculous I know, but I don't know what to do about it.

I forgot to mention I am on Welbutrin, and use the patch if I feel I need it.

Beginning; The patch is made to be used regularly. If you are experiencing extreems it's likely that you need to wear it regularly. I was a hard smoker, who would awaken and smoke a few. Therefore,I used the 21 mg patch and wore it overnight. And yes, there are dream states that accompany it. But, if you are one, like me, that woke in the night; or had a butt within the first 5 minutes of waking up, you want the same dose. A new patch takes @ 20 minutes to get into full effect. Having said that, I understand the fear you experience. Remember the 4 Ds. Remember the reason you want to quit. And move on. ![]() You can get past the average 10 minute craving. No matter how bad it is. ![]() L'Chaim!

I have the same exact cycle of fear that you are going through, beginning. It is completely irrational, yet I go through the same exact series of thoughts. This is the biggest hurdle that I am trying to overcome as I gear up for a quit date. Like others have said, hang in there. You are certainly not alone when it comes to thinking like this.
