| Strong Statement
Strong Statement Being near smokers or being offered a cigarette can be a struggle, especially at first. Some people stay away from smoking friends and smoking areas for a while. But that's not an option for everyone. You can talk yourself out of smoking, if you have some well-chosen words ready. If you find yourself struggling with temptation, strong statements like these can help: "I don't smoke. I don't smoke. I don't smoke." "I've worked too hard to give up now." Think of a few statements of your own right now. Practice them. Write them down. Keep them ready, just in case. Keep the quit and post before you puff! ![]() Shalom!

Hey historyteach, Thanks for the tip! I find that the "I don't smoke" one works well, because it links directly to my identity as a non-smoker. If I smoked, it'd be going against myself. I find that I can now hang out with smokers and almost mentally "bleep" out the cigarette in their hand, or at the very least see it as not pertaining to me. I never thought I'd get to that point! Good luck to you!

Yea, I like that identity as a non smoker too! ![]() I've not had anyone offer me a smoke, but, I want to be prepared too. That way, I'm not ever caught off guard. ![]() Keep the quit and post before you puff! ![]() Shalom!

I love the " sour milk face ". I do remember that look and the screwed up ugly look when my smoke would drift their way. I swear that I will not do that. Although I do now notice when I get near people that smoke that i can smell it on them. Did I smell like that ????? And I can tell you that my new car sure smells good. Told Husband that he couldn't smoke in it. So that is the only rule in the car area. The house is a different story, but it does'nt bother me- since we are in Florida and always liked the windows open. Most people that we are around don't smoke and they noticed right away that I had quit smoking. And had only good things to say. Made me feel good.

When people would offer me a cigarette I would take it and shread it into very little pieces. Bit by bit I would shread the cigarette and make a neat little pile while that person would watch me. I found it to be good for my willpower and at the same time bad for their judgement that they could talk me into staying a smoker. I suspect that they would do this so I would not quit and they could feel better about not quitting themselves. They failed! I sit in the non-smoking section and they do not. I know this makes me an arrogant jerk. However I am a non-smoking jerk (smile).
