| Time to quit (again)
I have my patches ready to go, and I'm set to stop smoking on Friday. I quit for 10 years, went through a stressful period in my life, and 3 years later, I'm ready to be done. I'm just sick of it. I'm tired of the smell in my home, my car, my clothes... I'm tired of the elephant who sits on my chest in the morning. He really needs to go back to the zoo!! I did quit for 7 weeks a while ago, but let some more stress send me right back to smoking. This time I need to keep reminding myself there are better ways to relieve stress. Smoking will only make me stinky and temporarily make the tension better. So keep my kids in your thoughts this weekend!! I know from the past that the first week is less than pleasant for me. |

Read around these forums here. There a post on stress reduction. I have the same problem that you do. I've always let stress interfer with my quit. And I've had LOTS of stress to deal with. So I rationalized that smoking was ok, cuz "most" people don't have to deal with what I've had to deal with. Well, that's true, but, it's still me killing myself with the dang cigarettes. I have to find a better way to deal with the stress that *I* have to deal with. Comparing to others doesn't cut it anymore. :nono: You have a good sense of humor. That will help you in this quest. Use it for all it's worth! And always remember, post before you puff! ![]() We're with you all the way!!! Shalom!

| And here I go!!!
Had my last smoke last night around 10. Overslept this morning, so was running around getting the kids ready for school. I managed to throw my patch on somewhere in there, and I'm OK for the moment. This is usually the time of day I smoke the most, so I *think* if I can make it through the mornings, I'll be OK.

Webbie, I quit too for ten years then took up the habit when I discovered my husband was a sex addict. Phew...I still reach for the cigs when I'm stressed and have quit multiple times in the past three years. Last winter with the help of the patch I quit for 6 months but then hit the stress when I returned home and took it back up. I think in many ways it's a message I give to myself about dis-liking myself. Then when I continue to smoke I beat up on myself even more. I have done pretty good this week. After quitting for a month I started AGAIN before X-mass (another stressful relationship) and I realize that my body just won't handle this anymore. I'm on the gum and have been smoke free for about 3 days. I really wanted a cig tonite so here I am posting instead of smoking. What a struggle. I have realized what a co-dep I am and how this addiction relieves my inability to look at that issue. Any suggestions anyone? RainieMT |

Webbie; Sorry I didn't greet you the past few days. I went to FL! ![]() But, it's GREAT that you've joined the ranks of the smoke free!!!! The mornings were always the time I'd smoke like a chimney. So, I can relate to you. And I still get my strongest urges in the morning. But, I breath through them. Although I know mornings are busy when you have kids to get ready for school, and all, but, how about if you got up an extra 10 minutes early, and used that time to meditate? I've found that helpful in the past. It sets the days "calm" for me. Rainie, Welcome to SR!!! I'm glad you found your way here, and I'm THRILLED that you have quit again. Never, ever give up on yourself. I think you make a point about us not liking ourselves. Smoking is one way to hide behind the veil of smoke, and to injure ourselves while we're at it. People who hurt themselves have low self esteem. I've long recognized that about me. It might be best if you started a new thread about yourself and your own stressors. I'd hate to see it get lost in Webbie's. And there are lots of people who may be able to address your issues. As for stress, that's a normal part of life, and we need to learn to deal with it in a more effective manner. Read around these posts, and you'll find lots. Also, on the mental health and PTSD forums, you'll find invaluable information. ![]() Shalom!
