Anyone know.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm sure it's here somewhere just can't find anything on it right now. Anyone try those white inhaler cigerette type thingys? Got any info on that? Need a prescription, anyone successful using it? I don't want to go on the patch, or medication. I figured if I can go to work for 6-8 hours without a cigerette, about 6-7 hours of sleep without a cigerette, though on those sleepless nights I'm awake at 4 a.m. and go downstairs for a few quick puffs. That's 12-14 hours of my day without a cigerette. So it's the remaining, home time I have to work on. My trigger is sitting at the computer or my nightly after dinner coffee. Margo posted some great stuff I've kept reading over and over. I'm going to give it a shot. It was all I could do from getting another carton today. When I pulled down the carton thinking there were 2-3 left and only one pack "plopped" out I felt it a sign, it's time. I've never made a New Years resolution so this is going to be a first for both. So I've got one partially smoked pack I've got to stretch till tomorrow...maybe I'll go to bed real early tomorrow night!*LOL* I'm going to the pharmacy first thing tomorrow to find those white thingy's. It's the hand to mouth thing I've figured out. Wish me luck. I'm so proud and jealous of all of you who have done it so far this year..so if you can do it so can I right...right? ya sure? maybe? *LOL* Last edited by Chy; 12-31-2005 at 12:02 AM. No patch... No meds... Some of the inhalers have nicotine in them. For the hand to mouth habit, try a ciggerette holder...no ciggerette in it. Greta Garbo *LOL*

I have been having a dreadful psychological battle with this too, Chy. my boss who is/was the same age as me, and a vital very composite woman, was diadnosed while at work, with lung cancer, she died a dreadful death just 7 months later. i am ashamed of myself for not being able to give up. I tried the patches, and they gave me nightmares, I am the same as you, up at 4am sometimes, ( my time) and sitting here on puter. my situation is nearly the same as yours regards the triggers. I must ask if I can get those inhaler thingys over here Good Luck with quitting ! HUGX Lee |

Hi Chy, I'm using nicotine gum. It's working pretty well for me. I have the fake cig that you buy over the counter. The one I have contains no nicotine, you just inhale and it has kind of a smokey taste. I really don't like it. I know there are other types available, I think they are all over the counter. Best wishes, Chy. Roa |

My sister tried the inhalor. She didn't like it; found it expensive and was not successful using it. But, as far as NRT goes, it's like this. My smoke cessation counselor says that nicotine addiction is like an iceberg. Most of the berg is underneath, where it can't be seen. The tip is our actual smoking. The addiction is underneath. The NRT only gives us the opportunity to develop new skills and strategies to deal with the underlying issues related to our smoking. NRT is intended to be short term. And it will NOT help if we don't develop new strategies to deal with life on life's terms. It is also used in a stepping fashion, patch, gum, inhalor, all. It's supposed to be stepped down as we are gaining new skills as a non smoker. It helps us get past the physical urges as a result. The counselor says if we slip while on the NRT, it's the psychological aspect of our addiction we are feeding. Our neurotransmitters are getting the nicotine we need. Therefore, it's the psychological aspect that needs to be addressed. And that's the typical case. The physical addiction to nicotine is really short lived. Getting over the habbit is the key. Chy, I'm using zyban, the patch and the gum as needed. 2-4 pieces a day, usually in the car. But, I have been a very heavy smoker. At one point, I smoked over 3 packs a day! When I quit this time, I was smoking 2 packs. Hmmm...rather obsessive, huh? ![]() I've had a few tough days. Folks right here got me through it. (Thank you all.... ) I am now over one month without cigarettes. In fact, it's been One month, two days, 45 minutes and 14 seconds smoke free. That's 1281 cigarettes not smoked, saving $352.34. Life saved: 4 days, 10 hours, 45 minutes. ![]() So, if you think NRT will help, don't let anyone talk you out of it. Do whatever it takes to help you quit this nicodemon. It's your life at stake. Here's another link I've added: http://www.quitnet.com/Library/Guides/NRT/inhaler.jtml I put this in because it says that the rate of effectiveness is about the same as those who use the patch, gum and other NRT. It mimics the smoking action too, which, for me, was a drawback. I want to break associations with cigarettes. Good luck! You CAN do this Chy! And we'll be rooting for ya! Shalom!

Chy, you can get the inhalor over the counter but it is NOT prescription strength. I spoke with my pharmacist about it. For a light smoker the over the counter may do well. For a heavy smoker, the prescription inhalor may be what you would want. I am using the gum. If you read, I had a slip and I am still arguing with Mr.HOPE about keeping my days prior to the slip! LOOL Of course I can do what I want..I just like to tease him. Remember not smoking is a choice. We don't view it as something taken FROM us. At least for me I view it as a choice and a gift that I am giving myself. Good LUCK and I appreciate what you are saying. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope you will be joining the non-smoking group soon.... Hopefloats |

Well spent an hour looking at "products" and decided on gum. I and hubby came up with a plan towards abstinence we start on Thursday. It's to hard to do with all this free time at home. As Thursday approaches, we'll be working on cutting back each day eliminating the "evening" smoking and hopefully get towards complete abstinence in what I think I can reasonably do in a couple of weeks. I had to wait till I get super busy again to make it work. Once I get it in my head I can do 7-12 hours without, that morning smoke should be easy to quit to....okay...it's a plan at least, a good step I think, I needed hubby in my corner as I know I couldn't do it with him still puffing away. Will keep you posted!

We're here for ya, Chy! ![]() Glad you've got your starting plan set. You can call the American Cancer Society too. They'll hook you up with workbooks that will lead you to more long term plans and strategies to incorporate when something unexpected happens. Just having a plan in place often gets us past the initial hump. It's when we have to stop and think about what we will do, when in the middle of an urge, that we are more likely to stumble back onto familiar territory -- ie smoking! Finally, replacing the negative addiction with the positive one is the best way to stay quit, according to counselor. I've been going to the gym and loving it! ![]() Good luck and POST BEFORE YOU PUFF! ![]() Shalom!

Chy, I have a plastic cigarette I bought from Drug Mart, it's called smoke ender, I beleive. It doesn't have ANYTHING in it, yet you choose menthol, or non menthol, and you can inhale air in. (this sounds absolutely stupid) I guess it's just a oral substitute, I've used it most of today. Hugs, and looking forward to you joining us.
