Midas' 2 Month Pep Talk

Hey Everybody. Today marks my 2nd month Nic Free!!! Yay. To everyone trying to quit--Hang In There! You can do it.

I can tell I feel better. My Mom says I look terrific. I'm glowing. Gee, thanks Ma. Since I quit the smokes & the Java, my sleep cycles now have a more normal pattern. My acuity (sharpness of mind) is improving too. Look out, I'm using BIG words again.

My voice is doing strange things though. It's reminds me of when I went through puberty. LOL. Seriously. I'm also puzzled about my stuttering. I've never had that problem until now. Sometimes my voice suddenly cuts out when I'm in the middle of a sentence. All I do is 'wet my whistle' and start over.

Overall, I seem to be changing. Mostly for the better. My attitude has a much smoother quality to it now. It's Odd...in a good way.

So Keep Up the Good Work, Team!

Good for you Midas, well done!

What's happening with your voice? And did you give up the coffee because you didn't like it anymore?

I'm not sure about the deal with my voice. I notice it being more pronounced when I'm under stress. Maybe it's just a transition. OMG, about the coffee. I love Java. I started drinking coffee in Junior Highschool. My favorites are/were mostly the unflavored variety like Millstone & Starbucks; French Roast, Bed & Breakfast, Kona, Espresso, Caffé Verona, Gold Coast Blend. I like the Dark & Medium Dark roasts. My absolute favorites are the two Fair-Trade, Shade Grown varieties--Organic Aztec Star'N'Sky & Organic Mayan Black Onyx. They're very good & rather expensive at $20 a pound.

My digestive system seems to be working better without the coffee. Too much acid. I might switch to decaf after a few months, but I'm thinking about picking up my Exotic Tea Interest again. I've tried a few that will knock your socks off, and it's not because of the caffeine content. The Ultra Exotics are for special occasions only...considering some of them are upwards of $40 a pound.

Everyone is doing great! Keep It Up!!

Day 12 here!

I quit for 3 years a while back and my voice became less deep. I know what you mean about it feeling strange. I mean, I listen to myself with out giving it a thought (hmmm maybe I should think about it a little more?) and then I sounded different.

By the way I picked up again because I was with a friend who could have one cigarette and one glass of wine on her deck in the evening. It sounded so restful. Good thing I am not an alchoholic! That was 8 or 9 years ago!

Have a good day all!

Congrats, Midas.

Day 2 for me. Going CT on smokes and alcohol. I have to. The "wean yourself off" routine just prolongs the anxiety for me. Besides, I always smoked WAY more when I was drinking. They went hand-in-hand. The beer ALWAYS made the smokes more enjoyable.

I am REALLY looking forward to the day where I say I don't smoke or drink.

HEY - WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That day is TODAY.

Well, I guess that means I just might have to go out and treat myself to a nice dinner tonight to celebrate.

Anybody want to come along? I'm thinking mexican food (and no, I don't mean Taco Bell, even though I am a Taco Bell ADDICT)

Thx jj. Right On! Good for you, jjaaam. The first few days are kinda tough.

I like authentic Mexican cuisine too. I'll take a chicken chimichanga with guacamole and green chile sauce, and a bowl of pico de gallo, please.
