It's now my third day smoke free!!! ![]() Got a call from the American Cancer Society last night. They do a telephone counseling session. The woman was nice; asked lots of questions and gave good ideas. Like thinking of both thought and action plans for strategies to prevent relapse. I've known of action plans - ie - I'll brush my teeth after eating rather than my after meal smoke. Never even occured to me to have a thought plan! It's like CBT; becoming aware of our thinking and questioning it's veracity. I won't "die" without a cigarette! LOL! We talked about things to do during the holiday festivities. I am especially worried about keeping quit during parties. I'm not drinking, cuz I know that it will lower my resistence. I can help in the kitchen, or as bartender. Just to keep busy so I won't think about or take the time to smoke. Interestingly, she said to call my doc and tell him I quit. She said he may want to adjust meds. I've never known that. But, it makes sense! I'll call; but, I've quit before, so, I don't think there will be any changes. She suggested making a list of 10 minute activities. These are things I can do when an urge starts. OK, since I'm off work right now, that's not a problem. There's always 10 minutes of work to do at home, and I can even go on my exercise machine, (which will be good for me too!) I'm more concerned about when I get back to work. I don't have any breaks, except lunch - 25 minutes. I have been doing this - having a smoke; eating my sandwich; having a smoke; going back to class. Any ideas what to do instead of having a smoke? Anyway, just really wanted to share. I'm on my THIRD DAY!!! Still coughing, but, I know that's normal. Nose is very stuffy too. And I know this too shall pass. ![]() Thanks for listening! Shalom!

Maybe stay in your classroom a little longer and help a child with a problem, rearrange the room, get ready for the next days lessons, draw a picture on the chalkboard. I know I sound like I am trying to work you to death, but busy busy busy works! You can’t have time to have a smoke or you will.

Thanks, Plano; I know I have to keep busy. But, since I have no free period, I just NEED to take a break from work. Otherwise, I'll burn out. It's stressful enough already without a break, ya know? But, thanks... On good days, I can go for a walk around the block. That will help. What about snowy, rainey days? Shalom!

Good Morning! I am sooooooo proud of you!!!! The first week is the hardest and your almost there! Maybe you could go for a walk it'll clear your mind and you'll be doing something that is good for you and your body. Ha ha I just read that you too said you could go for a walk, maybe you could pray? Do you have a favorite author you like? I love to read when things are stressful, it takes me away for a few moments. Keepup the good work! Hugs & Laughter GRUMPY |
