Lightbulb Today

Put the patch on this morning. I'm on Welbutrin/Zyban. I signed into the "committed quitters" support. Going to look into that support group I found out about a while ago. And, I have numbers to call if I need to.

Please say a prayer for me; I'm going through a really stressful time right now. Doc told me that I have the beginnings of OCPD, though, and I really have to quit now, before it gets bad; before I do any more damage to my body.

I'm doing this with a "one day at a time" attitude. I am addicted to nicotine, and I know it. I am no different than my addicted son - but my addiction won't send me to jail.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

Shalom!

5 hours, 53 minutes and 9 seconds. 10 cigarettes not smoked, saving $2.77. Life saved: 50 minutes.

Hmmm....this is what the quit meter says.
I got news for them. I'd have smoked almost a pack already since 6 AM if I was smoking! I guess they must divide it out over a 24 hour period or something. Obviously, I don't smoke when I'm sleeping! Or I don't think so, anyway!

But, I DO keep reaching for my cigarette pack!

Shalom!

Congrats on quitting Teach!!!

You can do it!!! I am on day 4 and I feel great!! The first 3 days were a little tough but not as hard as I thought.

Everytime I want a cig I say to myself the craving will go away wether I have one or not!! I also have the 5 D's posted on my computer at work and on my door at home, so if I go to have one at work I have the D's right in front of me, if I want to leave my house to go buy some, I have to look at the 5 D's before I open my door!!
1. Delay a minitue or 2 and the urge will pass
2. Drink water to fight off cravings
3. Do something else to fight off cravings
4. Deep breathe it will relax you. Close your eyes and take 10 slow deep breaths.
5.Discuss your thoughts and feelings with someone close to you.

Something else I did was go up to the NA/AA forum alot, it really gave me inspiration.

Good luck teach, I know you can do this!!

Roxy

I have been quit for 3 Days, 10 hours, 50 minutes and 24 seconds (3 days). I have saved $29.32 by not smoking 86 cigarettes. I have saved 7 hours and 10 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 11/25/2005 11:30 PM

Hey, congrats, Roxy!!!

And thanks for the tips.
I actually did go up on the alcoholism forum, lol! Seems great minds think alike, huh? See, I'm not going to drink, cuz it's a huge trigger for me to smoke. Those great folks said they'd help me out too!

Oh, and it's COPD, not OCPD that the doc said I have, LOL!
These alphebet soup acronyms really can be confusing, at times!

Shalom!

Best of luck to you, historyteach!

I hope to join the ranks of the non-smokers soon. A lot of crap in my life right now (not an excuse, but a pragmatic view) going on, so I've set a date for New Year's Day (yes, a New Year's pledge that I plan on actually keeping for once). I've been smoking for 18 years and on my vast limit to the doctor he said I was on the cusp of COPD (my FEV1 was 81%). So, like yourself, I want to quit before things go downhill fast.

I hope you have good days ahead, and I hope that soon I can post that I'm finally rid of these awful things. Until then, I'm going to be journaling about my addiction....noting triggers....etc. so that I am well-aware of the whys/hows/whens and such so that when THE DAY comes I will be ready. I don't know if I'm going to use nicotine replacement therapy or not....I think I'll make that decision when the day gets closer. But I feel real good that I have a date set and am getting the ball rolling. I've been at this for 18 years, so I figure this is going to take at least a few weeks of prep and "girding my loins."

Keep at it, historyteach. I'll keep a good thought for you.

Thanks for the good thoughts, bushleaguer!

I'm also going through so much stuff in my life. In fact, I'm out of work on a stress leave! LOL! But, I've just got to do this, and there's no time like the present. Plus, I am getting over bronchitis. That always helps with the motivation!

OK, so here's what I did. I called 1 800 try to stop.
(1 800 879 8678)
And I went to the web site. I started the program there -- the pre quit part anyway. It's www.trytostop.org .
I can get phone quit tips from 1 800 943 8284 or 1 800 9 get a tip.
I'll be getting telephone counseling from the american cancer society too. And there's www.cancer.org as part of the program. Also, www.lungusa.org .
Finally, there's a smoke cessation group I am supposed to call and join nearby.

Why don't you try that try to stop number? That's where you'll get all the stuff I just mentioned. It can't hurt, I'm figuring!

Also, exercise, meditation and good diet help with stress. And I've made a start today with that long walk. I went online to find a gym with a pool nearby, but, couldn't find one yet. I'll keep trying.

Good luck to you. And come on here when you're ready to stop and for your pre-planning! Did you read the stickys on top? They're filled with good information. Check it out!
Shalom!

16 hours, 32 minutes and 52 seconds. 27 cigarettes not smoked, saving $7.58. Life saved: 2 hours, 15 minutes.

Well, I'm heading for bed. It's been a pretty good day. I went for a good long walk. Then went to a naranon meeting tonight. Decided to stop drinking, as it's a very strong trigger for me to smoke. So, I went to our very own alcoholism board, and they welcomed me so kindly!
Heading off for bed. I still don't understand how these stats work, cuz, I'd have had two packs of cigarettes today... whatever...
Shalom!

Hey Teach, Good job today!!!

Did you download the quitkeeper? If so maybe try to enter again the amount you smoked etc. You also have to save the changes and it took me a minute to figure out the time, it's on Army time.

Have a good sleep

Roxy

I have been quit for 3 Days, 22 hours, 30 minutes and 50 seconds (3 days). I have saved $33.46 by not smoking 98 cigarettes. I have saved 8 hours and 10 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 25/11/2005 23:30
