| Day four
Well, I have not smoked for 4 days. I am using the nicotrol inhaler. For someone who never wanted or intended to quit, this is amazing. Even though I am using nicotine replacement, I have noticed that the psycological addiction and emotional addiction to smoking are real. The funny thing is that quitting smoking was not on my "to do" list. I was working on my recent 4th step, when I realized that I resented smoking laws. Looking at my part in this, I had to admit that I was afraid to quit, or even try. By the time I got to step 7 with it, I knew that God was going to remove the smoking from me if I was willing. Now that I am making my amends, I'll see where this is going to take me. What a strange journey this has been, and still is. God has removed the fear. Whether it works now, or a year from now, or never, I have truly given it to God. Hugs, Magic

Hi Magic! I'm on day six using the patch and have had no cravings for the past few days. I've quit before and started again, but this quit feels very different from those in the past. I asked for my obsession to be lifted and it appears to have happened. I was afraid too, but the fear has been lifted as well. Good luck to you, Magic - keep us posted on how you're doing!

Day two for me...using the patch system and fighting the cravings one at a time. As an alcoholic, the two go hand in hand and I am so praying that kicking cigarettes will cut down my alch intake. I also haven't picked up a drink since Sunday evening. I have had my first real scare...I'm 37 and could not breathe properly, couldn't fill my lungs and it scared the crap out of me, I've vowed never to smoke again - and am still fighting for breath now, I can't wait for this feeling to pass as they clear out. My boyfriend is quitting nicotine today with me, but I can tell he's not totally ready to, even though his health is being effected badly now. I realise I can't make his decision for him, but I just 'know' this is going to be a bone of contention. Any one got any advice? this quitting together thing seems it's going to be a bit more difficult than all the literature states! Well done on your days magic! |

Day 6! Thanks for the support everyone. I am really surprised that I have only had a few times I've really wanted a cigarette. For the most part, I like not smoking. The nicotine inhaler is working for the cravings, and in general, I am using less than I was smoking. I believe that doing the work in the 12 steps has helped me let go of this. It seems to work in all my affairs, just like it says. HMMM! Hugs, Magic

Well, I had one last night. I went bowling, forgot my nicotine, started getting a headache at about 3 hours. I've been trying to stretch the nicotine replacement out. Anyway, I caved. Just couldn't go all night without it. New start today. M

Picking ourselves up and continuing on after a slip is the way to go, Magic. Too often in the past when trying to quit I've had one and that one turned into months more smoking. I had one on day three, but no more and I'm now on day ten (using the patch). It gets better all the time - already I feel better physically and emotionally. Withdrawal headaches are really common and drinking lots of water can help this symptom. Good luck Magic - you can do it!

Thanks again. I am trying to remember to drink lots of water, but then I have to go a lot. Guess that is not a bad trade off. Congrats on 10 days! M
