| I Did It, I Quit
Ok its been 36 hours since I smoked, feeling pretty good, using the patch, so no, I didnt go cold turkey. Didnt know my house stunk so bad, it amazes me how quickly your smell comes back. I smoked all over the house, all the time, kinda wanting one now, but I am determined this time, more so than ever. I lost my MIL 2 years ago to Lung cancer, her sister is ill with COPD, has to have oxygen to sleep, both heavy smokers, my step MIL is in the hospital right now with pnemonia, also has COPD, she quit smoking over 17 yrs ago, was not a heavy smoker though. I have been a heavy smoker for the past few years. I will be 40 next month, so I figure this is a good bday present for myself and my family. My 12 year old son hugged me really tight this morning, I told my hubby after having a early breakfast (usually I dont eat breakfast I smoke) coffee and eating bad time for wanting a cig. So thats where I am right now, need support guys and gals, any advice, just a word of encouragement!!! Thanks in advance. hugs, sisofD |

sis, One thing that was very helpful to me,(I quit, after smoking for 40 years), was to immediately get up and do dishes. Break old habits and routines of doing things! It is amazing how nice your home smells, after not smoking....and without using "scents"! Good luck!

My wife and I quit in March of this year. We used the patch too. My truck still smells like an ashtray. I tried an air freshener. It now smell like an ashtray out in a pine forest (grin).

This is day 22 for me and I am using patches. Was smoking 50 a day. I find it helpful to stay busy, move things around literally, I moved some of the furniture, placed nice things where my ashtray used to be, go to work by a different route and reward myself every day, plus I talk to people who will support me. After 22 days, my sense of smell and taste is amazing, I can run up steps I could only shuffle up before, my energy is returning very fast, every day seems to bring something new. Hang in there Kevin

Only on day 3 after 24 years of smoking....obscene really condsidering I'm only approaching my 38th Birthday, my Father died of lung cancer and my mother has chronic emphasema...what an evil, deceptive and vile drug this is. My chest is bad and I am never going to smoke again. I'm using the patch and have cut myself off for the last few days, away from anyone who smokes or is part of my alcohol/nicotine rituals. It's really helped, the solitude has been a blessing. I've been sweating like made though, but that's to do with not having a drink since Sunday more than the patch I think. Difficulty sleeping also, but I know this will pass. I'm not craving as much as I thought I would, it is just about habit breaking like so many people on here say. This morning, have cleaned & moved the furniture around in my bedroom and the bathroom is now so clean you could eat your dinner in there! Thanks for letting me share that, I really need to get it off my chest (for want of a better phrase!) Well done to all else on this thread, we're all going through the same thing and that is a real help to me...Now, everyone... lets take a nice DEEP BREATH!! |

Thanks Planotexican. Day 7 and I am so incredibly proud, this is the longest I have ever given up for in all those years and damn it, its the last time I give up! I even met a friend in a bar the other day where he was drinking wine and smoking. The alcohol really didn't get to me...amazing! considering I'm a using a/h...but I haven't picked up since I smoked that last cigarette. I have no dt's - nothing, it's feckin brilliant! To be honest, I don't understand it but I'm not complaining. I've had a few little cravings, but using the patches and carrying around my book on how to stop smoking has been all the strength I need...it's brutally honest about the effects of cigarettes. Anyway, thanks for listening, I had to tell someone. Most people around me are pretty non-plussed, but I guess they've heard enough promises from me in the past where my a/h is concerned. No matter, I'm doing this for ME! WELL done to all on this thread and lets keep up the good work! |
