Nogard, that is wonderful and I wish you all the best. On my last quit attempt I used the patch and found it very helpful. When I relapsed it was because I chose to smoke and not that the patches weren't helpful. I also tried to do a fast taper off the highest strength instead of the suggested six weeks. A couple of things I'd like to share with you about the patch are: If you leave it on at night you may have very vivid dreams! I generally took mine off a couple of hours before bedtime. When you downgrade your dose from highest to medium, and medium to lowest, be prepared for the possibility of feeling some temporary withdrawal syptoms as your body adjusts. You may not, but I did and was not expecting that to happen. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks Guys, Day 3 now and thats good, this morning was a bit easier, but I had a disturbed nights sleep and awoke feeling like I had a terrible dose of flu, I belive this can happen? Anyway, I was like an old man hobbling around, so I took a day off work and am looking after myself and gradually feeling better. I cut down on coffee and sugar so I guess that adds to the withdrawals. Anyway I am hanging in here. nogard

Hi Nogard - flu-like symptoms can be one of the withdrawal symptoms in the very early days. It will go away. The last time I quit I found the first three days to be the worst. Here's a link with some info about withdrawal symptoms: http://quitsmoking.about.com/cs/crav...withdrawal.htm Keep up the good work - you are doing great!

Day 4 now and I feel better this morning, thank God, yesterday was not good. I am still aching but the other flu like symptoms have gone. Going to try doing things with my other hand today, so that I switch "anchors" and break the reach for a ciggy thing. nogard

whoa Nogard... memories.. I bet eh... yup.. I had to treat myself like a total invalid when I quit... gawd.. once I shed some of the poison... kinda spun my head around about how strong the hold really was... and how much it was taking from me.... and I loved smoking... still do... but... the knowledge that I would be responsible for my own crappy death is such a strong deterrant for me now... and it goes well with my biking... ;o) so.. I may have fond memories... but.. I also remember overdosing on nicotene... and not being able to stop... the sick feeling.. the ache in my lungs... man oh man... I so need to remember... but yeah... it's a killer... so.. your reaction is no surprise to me.. Blessings on Day 4 Nogard... yer doin good.. ;o) |

Thanks bikewench and Kellie, it really helps to post here and have your support Well the shakes have gone and I seem to be a lot calmer now, hope this lasts a while, but whatever, I am determined and just keep feeding back each twinge into my determination to stay quit. Kel, don't sound corny to me at all, I belive I received it I see now how connected my addiction to booze and cigs was with the way I isolated myself. Having removed those I can now face the "isolation" thing, firts thing I am doing about it is getting out more with friends and I will start going out on my own as well, instead of smoking a pack of cigs on my own at home each night. nogard

Nogard - you are doing great! Glad to hear you're feeling better - the first couple or so days can be tough but you're riding it out and staying strong. Isolation is a recovery killer and that's a really good insight you've had. Have fun with your friends!
