quit tip

A State of Constant Tension

Abstaining from smoking a cigarette is actually a stress-reduction exercise. Many smokers claim that smoking relaxes them; in reality, nicotine addiction (while it does trigger relaxation AND stimulation signals in the brain) actually increases one's overall level of mental, emotional and physical stress. Increased heart rate, higher blood pressure, obsession with smoking breaks, etc, and nicotine withdrawal in between cigarettes all contribute to a state of constant tension.

Isn't it interesting though, that everytime I've tried to quit, I pick up again due to the stress associated with, (usually), my addict son.
I am NOT blaming him. I am the one who picks up.
The point is, it's always stress. *sigh*
12 days till school is out...
(but who's counting! lol!)
I'm gonna try again this summer.
Thanks; hope this helps!
Shalom!

Teach,
I have been really having a hard time with stopping, used to I could quit when I said I was going to, be it for a couple of months or even a few days, if I set my mind to it, I said ok tomorrow I am gonna quit, I did, now its like I cant even get that. I have quit many times, always went back, but that is my issue, cant stop even for a hour, thats discouraging, kinda scary in a way, I lost my mil to lung cancer 1 year ago, you would think that would be enough, but not yet anyway.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
sisterofD

The longest success I've had was 3 1/2 months.
I was on welbutrin sr (zyban) and the patch.
Unfortunately, the last time I tried that, I went into a really bad panic attack. It seems welbutrin can cause them! *sigh*
There is the 1 800 trytoquit hotline. My ob/gyn just suggested that to me. I suppose I'll try that this summer. My regular doc doesn't want me to use the other approach due to the severity of the reaction I had...
I wish you luck. Let me know what and how you do, ok?
Shalom!

O.o. That makes perfect sense. HaHa I never noticed that before. I quit for year. :o. Started again a few weeks ago though. That's not the point ha. Seriously, I though quitting for a year was impossible but it's really not.

Hi, again, Carchick!!!
Glad to see you joined the other forum too! Look forward to reading your posts.
You started again too, huh? WHat's that going to do with your sports? I know my smoking killed my voice, (I used to sing). No breathing control anymore.
It will do the same to you too, unfortunately.
I don't want to be one of those, "do what I say,not what I do" type of people. But, you are still young. And you've had evidence of being able to quit for a long time. Please try again. You can be my inspiration!
Shalom!

Please quit them dang cigarettes today. Do it for yourself and no one else. I am 12 weeks off of them. I have pretty much lost the craving, and I feel so much better! I have even stopped taking my allergy medicine as it was the cigarettes causing the problems.

I did some repainting in my shop and got most of the smell out of there. The smell is finally gone from my clothes now.

Now if I could just get the smell of them out of my car...
