Good luck Ro. I know how hard this is, unfortunately I have yet to make it stick myself. Are you going completely cold turkey, or are you using a patch or the gum? You are doing a great thing.

I got on Zyban to help me quit -- it really took the edge off. A lot of people relapse after years of quitting -- I've seen my friends do that -- I just hope it never happens to me but you never know. Good luck to you! |

Did pretty well until about 7:00 p.m. then a smoker was over and don't you know, weak little me, I bummed 2 cigs and ended up with 4. Maybe I should change this to I'm not going to buy cigs anymore - I'll just bum them! Just kidding. I'm back at it today. Really noticed an increase in energy level yesterday. Got a lot done, rather than sitting around smoking myself into a stupor. My breathing was a litter quieter - ALREADY. Thanks to all for your support and kind words. Love, Ro |

Thank you Roxann, When I smoked the first cig last night, boy did it make me feel dizzy. Literally took my breath away. What I noticed yesterday is that I wasn't missing the nicotine but the act of smoking and inhaling, I think that has the greater hold on me - more that the nicotine. Here's to a smoke free day. Ro |

Roa - luck has nothing to do with it and you know it! Just don't pick up another cigarette and smoke it, that is all that is necessary. And stay away from the nasty addictive nicotine gum. Best wishes. Bookie12 (633 hours smoke free; cold turkey) |

Thanks, Bookie, Yes, I know it isn't luck - it's willpower. I should change the thread to Wish Me Well or Wish Me Willpower. Oh Oh. I do have a piece of gum in my mouth right now. Now I'll have to think about an addiction to that. Thanks for the words of wisdom and congratualtions on the 633 hours of smoke free living. Ro |

Ro - believe it or not, it was a book that I purchased "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr is what did the trick for me. The book is so interesting. I've quit 3 times before, and within the first 2 weeks, I packed on 7 to 8 extra pounds. This time, I'm still weighing the same after 27 days now. And it's because of the things I read in the book. Note: It helps to "believe" what the author has to say. There's nothing traditional about his words on quitting. Hang in there! Bookie |

Ro - just looked at this thread again...YOU ARE A VETERAN! Quit for 3 years?????? There's hardly anything I can tell you at this point...you know what you need to do. Again, hang in there. And you already know that you have to "want" to quit smoking in order to do so. Bookie |

Thanks for all of the good wishes. Well, I screwed up again! I'm going to look into getting the book that was suggested. When I quit before (back in 1970), I did macrame and tied knots every time I wanted a smoke. Needless to say I had macrame projects allllllllll over. I'm not going to quit trying. I promise me! Thanks again. Love, Ro |
